We were supposed to climb Merbabu but since the weather conditions didn’t allow us to go up this one we got recommended the Prau hike instead. There was a 3 hour drive from Yogyakarta (got picked up at the hotel). We started hiking at 3 am and was on top a few hours later. The sunrise was amazing! Our guide had brought blankets, snacks and coffee for us. The guide had great knowledge in the area and adjusted the hike according to our wishes.

Very satisfied with Jogja compass tours for organising our 2d1n camping trek up Mt Merbabu. We took the Suwanting - Selo route which involves hiking all the way to the summit and staying overnight there (around 7-8h of climbing inclines, minimal flat areas, good fitness required), instead of camping 3/4 of the way up and summiting past midnight (Selo route). The view from Suwanting route though was awesome! We walked the ridge line of the mountain nearing the summit which had a savannah terrain and was very surreal above the clouds. There were 5 guides/porters for the 5 of us and we were very well taken care of. The highlight was the food which was tasty and in abundance which they managed to whip up despite the difficult conditions at the summit! Tents, mats, and sleeping bags were clean. However, it can get very cold at night so please bring extra socks! The guides’ help for the descent was much appreciated as it was very slippery. We did not feel rushed and they waited for each member of the group. Disposable face masks were also provided as it was very dusty. However it would be good to bring your own scarf/mask. One area of improvement would be to have a toilet stop right before the trek as we took a 2h drive from Jogja. There was no base camp for the suwanting route. Harry was very responsive and it was a pleasure arranging this tour with him. Prices are also one of the lowest of those we compared.

Amazing experience, the pickup service is great, my dude Deny is an awesome guy! Great English, as well as a great attitude. The pickup was timely, and very convenient, they came directly to our hotel. They gave us some time to get ready for the trek, gave us our headlamps, and even let me borrow a jacket. If you do decide to do the night climb, it gets super cold up there, so make sure you bring your coat and warm clothing. The guide was amazing and very helpful, he was such a pleasant guy, working super hard for us to make sure we were comfortable with our climb. The guide was so patient and knowledge. And the views. Oh my God, the top of the mountain is crazy beautiful. All in all, super amazing trip with an awesome company, 10/10, when I come back to Indonesia I'm going to go on their Merapi tour next time.

Well-planned itinerary and easy to shift around activities. Harry is very responsive before, during and after the trip. Planning with Harry was easy and fast. Our driver, Mas Ahmad, was fluent in english and bahasa. He was friendly, quick to suggest local places to eat and had a blast with him as our driver. Definitely recommend Jogja compass tour and Mas Ahmad as your driver.

We booked a tour to climb Mount Merbabu. Right from the start, Harry has responded v quickly to our enquiries and booking was done without any problems. Unfortunately my hubby fractured his ankle as the path was very steep. The guide Pitut supported us throughout the trip as there were no evacuation service till Post 1. He even carried him at the last stage and always had a smile. They also sent us to a local hospital first but there was no x-ray machine there. The driver Ahmad went out of the way to drop my hubby at the international hospital and waited 2 hours at the hospital before driving us back to the hotel. When Harry heard about this, he texted us and wanted to pay for the hospital expenses n sent us a gift. We were v touched by the hospitality as they went beyond their call of service. The service they provided was excellent! We will highly recommend them!
