- Laura JBurnley, United Kingdom17 contributionsIt was a little 'meh'If you're from from the North of England I wouldn't class this as a must see. We were allowed to drive up the road before being told we were not allowed to park and therefore had to drive all the way back down to park our car, scooter parking at the top is allowed. There was a free shuttle from the car park to the top. It cost p50 each to visit the sight, be wary as you are paying, lots of people will try to sell you food and drink and its difficult to determine what's going on. It's certainly something I will never see again but we were a little underwhelmed. You can see quite a few different hills and they go on for miles. We visited when the hills were just starting to brown but they still looked nice. The bathroom facilities are ace! Most definitely avoid the restaurant, staff watching youtube on their phones at top volume and slowest service ever.Visited January 2020Travelled as a coupleWritten 15 January 2020
- Moving_Goujon60 contributionsA highlight of our 2 months in the PhilippinesFrankly i don't know what other people have been looking at to be underwhelmed by this spectacle of nature, or maybe they are just a bit dead inside? Could've happily sat and stared at the beautiful scene for hours, if the sheer volume of visitors to the site didn't make doing so somewhat difficult. But who can blame them, i have walked many hills and mountains and i have never seen anything like it! Apparently there is another group of chocolate hills that see less tourists, but we met somebody that had been to these and reported being disappointed by them. I am sure if he had visited this main site he would have been as impressed as we were! If you're in Bohol it would be a shame to miss this, scooter rental is reasonable and the island isn't big. Was a fairly short journey from Loboc. Try to avoid weekends!Visited January 2020Travelled as a coupleWritten 4 January 2020
- Global Nomad69 contributionsWorth a visit if you're in the areaWorth checking out if you're in the area, but nothing particularly amazing on its own... We rented a scooter in Lobac and spent the day exploring a number of local sites, this being one of them, so we felt it was well worth the $7 rental fee and another $3 in total for various entrance fees. I definitly wouldn't pay for a tour though, as all sites are easily accessible on your own, and not worth the price we were quoted for tours. Just make sure to put in *Chocolate Hills Complex*! If you follow Googles directions for this site, it'll bring you somewhere completely different (20-30 minutes away), in the middle of nowhere... The stairs aren't much, unless you're considerably out of shape, but there are a few rest stops along the way, just in case :). Entrance is 50 pesos ($1).Visited January 2020Travelled as a coupleWritten 14 January 2020

Visited 2019 so I thought I would post again just confirm they are still there.
Back in 2019 you could drive to the top of hill but all that has changed.
You now drive into the hill entry only to be stopped and told to park 50m down the road where you pay and get a free shuttle bus to top.
Makes better sense as this place is busy. These formations of an ancient reef are special. Over 1200 of them.
Big stairs, good to stretch the legs after a two hour drive to get there, 10 minutes to take photos then leave as there isn’t anything else keeping you there. Hopefully that would change in time

A very unusual place that stands on its own. It's worth seeing it. I don't think these are natural but man made, more likely burial sites.

We went here last March, hills are green. They say that it showcase its iconic chocolate brown look during the dry months of January to May.
But looks green to me.

I came here twice in my life already, first one was 9 years ago and second one this 2023. This time we did a road trip from Alona Beach in Panglao, stopovers for lunch and Tarsiers spotting. I realized it is better to visit this area during the dry season (Jan - April), so you see the hills in a nice brown chocolate color, while in may they are already quite green because of the rain.
Anyway. This is a worth to do visit when in the Philippines.

Chocolate Hills will never disappoint any travellers due to its magnificent hills, and incredibly God creation. Truly, it is a wonder of God.
Before going to Chocolate Hills, bring the following:
1. Bottled Water
2. Umbrella (in case of rain, or to avoid excessive sun exposure)
3. Wear rubber shoes, or any comfy shoes for you
4. Put sunblock
You need to climb 100-steps of staircase to have a perfect picture with chocolate hills as ypur background, so be prepared.

Worthwhile activity if visiting Bohol. Scooters / motorbikes aren’t allowed all the way up, so you need to park in the car park and take the free shuttle. Entry is 100 pesos (I think), and on a nice day the views are lovely. It makes for some great photos. Not much else other than that and it’s only a short stay, but worthwhile seeing.

I mostly went here as a joke as I thought it would be fun to say I've seen real chocolate hills as big as a house, but although it can be used for that I still found the place to be really fun and entertaining place to be compared to others.

I have engaged a local guide who will be waiting for me at Bohol side. But I am wondering if i should book fast ferry to/from Tubigon (instead of Tagbilaran) for my Bohol trip. Is Tubigon Port nearer to the Hills than Tagbilaran Port . Also what is the fastest ferry duration from Tubigon Port to Cebu Port?

I would recommend riding from tagbilaran because the views are awesome and there’s wildlife sanctuaries to stop at and local places to eat

Hi not sure what you mean by walking to the top of the hills !!
We went on a group tour which took us up the top of the main tourist area and were dropped off and from there you walk up a pretty steep set of stairs to the top where there is an excellent viewing area. So the walk up and back with plenty of time for photos and to take in and enjoy the view I would allow around an hour. :)

Hallo Ihr Lieben,

Hello,im going to stay in bohol for two nights in May, my question is how to get to bohol from bantayan island? Im going to see the chocolate hills and the tarzier..is there any recommendations besides them two that i mention?hopefully i can get some answer thank you..

Hi
I’m not sure if there is a transport from bantayan to bohol and if there is, it will be a long journey and exhausting. We always start from Cebu pier to catch an oceanjet ferry that will take 2hr to Bohol this will cost you 450 in pesos or 500 if you want business class. This will mean that you will have to have a journey back from bantayan island to Cebu to get to bohol. Regarding your next question the must thing to do if your there in Bohol is, there is two types of tour which is countryside tour this is in Tagbilaran area where you can do chocolate hills, see tarsier they have two wildlife sanctuary and we went to the one in Loboc which has a lot of animal and tarsier to view, they do ATV if your a sports fun but we are not and lastly if you love falls or nature you can go to their famous lagoon in anda called Cabagnow cave pool and also hop on their floating restaurant for a buffet lunch at 700 in pesos. 2nd tour is the other side of Bohol called panglao where we suggest you checked the hinagdanan Cave where I get a comment from my sister in law that it’s the best things she’d ever done, swimming in it and after that you can unwind at the alona beach but it has changed a lot and more tourist, or you can hire a boat for an island hopping to their islands and to do dolphin watching! Hope you’ll have a great holiday.
Hi I am planning to visit chocolate island. Is there any package tour from manila?

My recommendation is to travel to Tagbilaran with Philippine Airlines - the best and most punctual airline - and then ask either at Alona Beach, Panglao Island or elsewhere for a driver and car for the day, typically costing P2000 - P2500 (plus entrance fees and lunch that you have to separately buy).
Me, my wife and my 3-year old son are planning to visit the hills. Do we need to take stairs to get to the top to for the view? My concern if its tiring to get there and if better if I don't bring a stroller.

Hi. You have to leave the stroller in your car or van when you get to the site. There are resting pits along the climb... about 7-8 steps interval. The view from these resting pits are already awesome but of course the view from the top is much better coz it’s a 360 view of the surroundings. If you can manage your kid, a family photo with the hills as background would be awesome.... good memories too.
