No visit to Sentosa is complete without meeting its most famous, 37-metre tall resident, the Sentosa Merlion. The legendary Merlion is a mythical creature with a lion's head and a fish's body - as a guardian of prosperity which personifies Singapore's history as an important seaport. The lion head depicts the folklore of Prince Sang Nila Utama's discovery of lion (singa) and City (pura) while the fish tail symbolises the fishing village of 'Temasek', also known as 'sea-town' in Javanese.

Set foot in the Merlion's mouth to get up close and personal with the legend. But don't stop till you get to the crown! At 60 metres above sea level, you will actually be seeing Singapore through the perspective of the Guardian of Prosperity.

Come soak up the 360⁰ commanding view and bask in the aura of this endearing national symbol. You'll see why legends, myths and stories all point to this regal creature for the swift recovery of Singapore's economy from the Asian financial crisis.

I took the cable car over to Sentosa for the day and had the best time, there are man made beaches and a free train to take you around the Island.Great opportunity to take fabulous photographs. Recommend the butterfly park.

If you travel to Sentosa Island by monorail you'll see the Merlion Statue as its right there. Great Place to go at night because they have lighting Show on the Merlion Statue which is nice. During the day you can get some good pictures in front of the sentosa sign the area around the Statue is always Decorated with something.... More

Just a big statue of Merlion, a lion. You can choose to go inside which we didn't do. Very busy area. We spent 10min here and felt it was sufficient.

Accessible using tram/walking. The Merlion was so big compare to the one in the Merlion Park. My guide says this is the Papa. Lol.

Visited Sentosa by cable car, the tram would have been more convenient for the Merlion Area and Beach though. Nice selection of restaurants and bars around the Merlion and Universal Studios entrance, with lots of photo opportunities. We combined our day trip between the beach area and the Singapore version of City Walk.

Can see the merlion from the cable car as you approach, impressive sight. There us a viewing spot from the mouth of the merlion with good views over sentosa and singapore Bay. But can get good photo of the outside if you dont wana pay the $12 to go into the merlion.

At the Sentosa island you will see this enlarged version of the original Merlion that you can climb up on and watch this awesome view of the harbor and Sentosa island. Great place to get some photos.
