About
No visit to Sentosa is complete without meeting its most famous, 37-metre tall resident, the Sentosa Merlion. The legendary Merlion is a mythical creature with a lion's head and a fish's body - as a guardian of prosperity which personifies Singapore's history as an important seaport. The lion head depicts the folklore of Prince Sang Nila Utama's discovery of lion (singa) and City (pura) while the fish tail symbolises the fishing village of 'Temasek', also known as 'sea-town' in Javanese. Set foot in the Merlion's mouth to get up close and personal with the legend. But don't stop till you get to the crown! At 60 metres above sea level, you will actually be seeing Singapore through the perspective of the Guardian of Prosperity. Come soak up the 360⁰ commanding view and bask in the aura of this endearing national symbol. You'll see why legends, myths and stories all point to this regal creature for the swift recovery of Singapore's economy from the Asian financial crisis.

The Merlion has been demolished. Wished someone had updated this article so we wouldn’t have gone, expecting to see it!

Do not understand why the Sentosa management is removing this gigantic Merlion statue. This mythical creature (half lion half fish) statue was an icon of Singapore for years. Much better than MBS. Too bad, we have to say goodbye for now.

This Sentosa merlion is bigger than the other one. If you don't have have a chance to take a photo with the other one, you can take photo with this one.

Just for sharing. Sentosa Merlion has been taken down. So do not have to add to your place of interest.

This is one of the iconic places at Singapore and traveller couldn't missed to have a picture before leaving. The area is crowded coz many people wanted to have a great background shot for this landmark. It's good and big enough to this statue even in a distant. I visited in 2014/2015

This is an interesting tourist spot for photographs, representing Singapore's development over the years. When it spouts water from its mouth, the view is spectacular. I visited this late afternoon and it was not busy at all.

This is definitely quite an iconic part of Sentosa island. We did not go inside, but we did get a good look at it from a few different angles. It’s fun to take pictures with it in the background.
