Over past 20 years I have ran Singapore Marathon under many incarnations. No matter what organiser is in charge this is an event to give a big miss to. Problems:

1. Race start is a shambles. You will find half and full marathon runners squeezing to the front. There is no effective grading on runners so elites or fast end up beside clowns who think a fast 200 metres at the start will propel them to the finish.
2. The course is mediocre at best and with a split for half runners always going to have problems.
3. If you are a half decent marathon runner ( around 3 hrs mark) you get to run into the rear end of 10k and half "runners" with 3k to go. Dodging around avoiding folks taking selfies or spread out five abreast is simply not reasonable.
4. There is no result service (you can see your own result and maybe top ten overall but nothing else).

This event is basically over subscribed with 10 and half runners. The standard of runner is low and the whole event is best avoided. If you want a real marsthon go to Tokyo, London, Berlin or New York.

The medical evacuation team is not sure where to head to, made a wrong stop to another medical tent and are not properly trained to use their stretcher properly. They nearly dropped my colleague, thankfully I caught the stretcher in time before it fell. The collection of the Belongings was a mess and logistically, they were not ready to deal with emergencies. The Nurses were nice but sadly no doctor on site throughout even at the main medical tent. Ambulance finally got to the hospital 1 hour +++ later. If you want to run such a marathon in future, please make sure you are ready to deal with your own emergencies and pray hard.

This was my first marathon. I flew over from Perth, Australia to run it. The 10 km and 3 km were run on the Saturday and the half and full marathons on the Sunday (9 Dec 18). I picked up my race pack on the Saturday. The event centre was well organised and many stands to see. There was no delay in picking up my number and race pack. The race starts at 4.30 am, so a very early start. I stayed at a hotel near the start to avoid any problems getting there in the morning. There were about 10,000 runners in both the marathon and the half marathon, so a busy start. It took quite a few kms to get into a rhythm and around the slow runners. The start was at the F1 pits on the starting grid for the F1 race. The first part of the course was interesting, then on a motorway for quite a while. The course headed out west initially and then came back to the Gardens by the Sea and then headed out east. The sun came up at about 7.00 am. My pen started at 4.43 pm so we'd been running for over two hours before the sun came up. I never felt too hot, but you sweat buckets. If you're planning on taking more than 4 hours, the sun will be up high and you will get very hot - take a hat and sunnies if you're going to run over 4 hours. There were drink stations about every 2 km with water and 100 plus. Overall its quite a slow marathon. About half the runners take over 6 hours to complete, but it does attract some top runners. At the finish they channelled runners away from the finish line quite quickly and hand out a medal, finishers t'shirt, water, 100 plus, ice and a cold towel. It was a great experience.

The standard chartered marathon Singapore is one of the 2 marathons which are organised in Singapore. The marathon brings participants from the start point in Orchard road all the way down to downtown Central Business District area. After which the race will bring you through to East Coast Park on the Eastern Part of Singapore. The whole route is covered with adequate water points and also bananas refuel with gel stations at about 30 plus km.
However , the route gets tougher towards the end where the runners have to go up the Sheares bridge, it proves to be quite challenging as the bridge has a steep gradient. Towards the end runners will have to wriggle their way through the crowd with the 10km and 5 km runners. this can prove to be a challenge as most of them will be walking and strolling.
Runners will get a finisher medal and tee shirt with other freebies form some of the exhibitors.

Can't organise an event properly. Selfish thinking and horrible execution led to a massive traffic issue around the whole of Southern Singapore, over 200,000 residents can't get out of their homes. The national hospital was gridlocked as well. If they can't do this simple task, they had better not be organising marathons. Stay away.

I have ran the 10 km race here a couple of times now and just love it. The course is ran thought the city and starts on the bridge. The weather is always very humid so take lots of fluids. There is always a huge crowd so arrive early.

Too many runners for the 10km (15000 registered if I am correct) so that the run had to be done on big roads. Boring scenery running behind the Marina Bay Sands, not even on East Coast or any other green area. Also not enough water and 100 Plus drinking station
