Anjali's location in Dempsey Hill is a little out of the way, especially by public transportation (but she is looking for a more central location eventually). Once I got there, it was great to have a chat with her about the chocolates and the flavors. Wherever I go, I look for local chocolatiers who try to do innovative things with flavors and visual presentations. Anjali does not disappoint. There is a classic selection, but the best thing to get is to pick the ones that represent the various flavors of Singapore. She helped me pick out a collection to take back. The trickiest part is getting them back to my hotel without having them exposed to the Singapore heat outside too long!

I came across this place unexpectedly, behind a garden shop and as part of a chocolate "school" of sorts - and I'm glad that I did! The chocolates had strong and well balanced flavors appropriate to the region and to the heritage of the purveyor. Lovely fruit and spice combinations and they even travelled fairly well over the course of my next couple weeks of holiday before I could ship them to my mom - who agreed with my assessment and then lamented the fact that it would be difficult to get more of them! Very good chocolate, and delightful little boutique!

I came across Anjali Chocolates online few months ago when searching for luxury gourmet chocolates in Singapore, as a suggestion for my husband to get me as a gift for my birthday, being a huge chocolate lover. He 'surprised' me with a box of 16 chocolate pralines and truffles from here and I was incredibly impressed with the quality and flavour. The chocolates were all beautifully presented and the flavours were both delicious and unique. I enjoyed the classics, such as their classic dark chocolate truffle, raspberry dark chocolate praline and their spectacular salted caramel, as well as the more interesting and creative flavours like the passionfruit, lemon pistachio and lemongrass coconut. They all tasted amazing and were the perfect texture, everything you'd expect from a luxury artisan chocolatier.
Then this Sunday I participated in one of their chocolate workshops. This one was a chocolate truffles workshop and it turned out I was the only person who signed up for it. In spite of this they still let the class go forward, rather than cancelling it, which meant I had a one on one lesson with one of their chocolatiers. It was a fantastic experience, my instructor was so knowledgeable and kind, and had lots of suggestions and tips for improving my techniques and getting the best results. He also showed me how to do tempering, which was an added bonus, and made sure I had the opportunity to try all of the techniques and recipes that he demonstrated myself to ensure I was learning them. I've done chocolate classes before and this one was so much more hands on, I learned much more and will be able to carry on practicing at home.
I highly recommend this shop, both for their chocolates and for their workshops. I'll certainly be back for both!
