Liked this sculpture when I chanced upon it during a walk in the Boat Quay area. Big and impressive.

Great place to hang out! Nice wind at times and the surrounding attractions make it really fun! there are benches all over if you get tired and want to sit, go back and there is a food street with plenty or eat and even a CAT CAFÉ! Go forwards and there's a funky Singapore-themed vending machine and ice cream vendors near Raffle Hotel! Happened across this cool area when I was out biking with my family.

This sculpture is by Fernando Botero. Like many of his sculptures, this has been created in his signature exaggerated proportions style. It’s a very cartoonish depiction of a bird, but an amusing one amongst the more serious sculptures dotted around the Boat Quay area.

This large sized statue is situated in Boat Quay.
We first saw this statue on Sunday 20th October, on the Quay side during our Singapore River Boat Trip.
We came face to face with the statue again while walking along Boat Quay.
Worth stopping to have a look while walking by. For some reason this statue made me smile.

Great statue at Boat Quay...looks like a bad-ass pigeon. I respect any city that invests in public art. This one is done by Fernando Botero...famous for his large, exaggerated volume....such as this bird.

The wealth of a country is well invested in the form of fine artwork as an educational tool that is shared with its people. You don't have to visit a museum to see a Botero sculpture. I had no idea how an artwork --not so lean, as usually is the case-- of a Colombian artist could be placed in Singapore. It is located in the UOB Plaza. Yes, you surely know the Merlion. But there is much more to that. In fact, there are a string of art jewels spread all over the city, not in enclosed spaces, but open to the public. Try to find a Henry Moore, a Salvador Dali, many whimsical work done by a few of local artists, like Aw Tee Hong. Find a 3-ton baby "floating" midair, or the new pieces around the Gardens by the Bay. All are free.

I sought out this bird sculpture because I absolutely love Fernando Botero's work, the sculptor of this impressive piece of art. I love how he makes everything fat! It was a bit of a challenge to get to and it didn't help that it was at night. It can seem unimpressive if just walking by. Perhaps it could have been better presented or situated, but nonetheless I enjoyed and appreciated it. The good news is if you're a Botero fan, there's another more grander set of sculptures you can see on Sentosa Island which I highly recommend! And these ones I accidentally ran into.

I was delighted when I stumbled upon this beautiful Botero statue at Boat Quay by chance. It is always a nice experience when pieces of one's favourite artist are found in another city.

If you appreciate art, make this a stop on your Art Trail.
Fernando Botero (viva Colombia!!!) said this work celebrated the joy of living and the power of optimism. It is better than any sculpture you will find in the National Gallery.
