Next to the Maxwell MRT, in the Chinatown area, in my opinion it is the best hawker where we were able to discover many food options at good prices, taking into account that Singapore can be expensive. Three halls with all kinds of options (taking into account local tastes), a lot of atmosphere, and with big fans. It took us a while to find a table, but without hesitation I would recommend not leaving Singapore without visiting and trying something new for your palate. I believe it is one of the most authentic places to discover the city of Singapore, which fascinated us.

We decided to go to this Hawker Centre on our first night in Singapore purely because this centre had my husband's name (Maxwell). It was a great experience and good introduction to Singapore!
There were lots of people here for dinner (it was around 7.30 pm) and so much to choose!! We ended up getting naan bread with tandoori and butter chicken sauce and the Tin Tin Hainanese Chicken Rice (the queue was less than 10 minutes). For dessert we could NOT go past the Souffle Pancakes, these were incredible.
Top tip, if you want to save a table (hard to secure) take a packet of tissues with you to put on an empty table whilst you are getting your food, a packet is required per person for your table. Whilst tourists might not understand, the locals will!
On a tour around the city the next day, the local guide recommended this as one of the better Hawker Centres, so would definitely recommend to anyone!

Maxwell Food Centre is ideal for food adventures. If you're keen on local delights, this is the spot—a summation of Asian cuisine in one place, with nearly 100 stalls offering various options. My favorites include stall #93, #9, Thai, Turkish, and Indian food. I've tried dumplings too, and it’s clear this place offers much more than just chicken rice. Fresh fruit juices are also available for SGD 3. A must-visit for anyone seeking authentic flavors!

Taking inspiration from the film "crazy rich asian" we wanted to try one of the typical "good courts" in Singapore, there are many of them in the city and they are called Hawkers centers. Inside there is a wide variety of proposals among the various stalls. We advise you to reserve seats first as they are very crowded and then go and look for food in turns. Even though credit card signs are displayed in some booths, banknotes are the preferred payment method. If you are "on a budget" it is the ideal place to eat.

Really enjoyed the experience and food at this food market. You really are spoiled with choice and its very reasonably priced. Singapore can be expensive but this place could not be more economical and everything we had was truly delicious. Fresh flavourful and generous too! Would highly recommend skipping the overpriced posh places and coming here for a unique local experience! I would find it hard to imagine someone not finding something they like to eat at this place . I like the fact everyone cleans up after the meal and leaves the spot clean for other customers.

Where do i begin? Visited this place per a Grab driver’s recommendation.
Food was okay, nothing special. The place we ordered from had sign accepting all credit cards but the guy running it said cash only. The arrogance was breathtaking. When asked for napkins, the guy went on a tirade how this is not a restaurant and “go buy your own napkins around the corner. You are also responsible for cleaning your own (common) table.
After Covid i find this a bit unhygienic. I noticed that few locals there, carried disinfecting wipes with them. There was no hand washing stations in sight like a lot of other countries have done post-covid.
Another vendor (different location) tried to pull the same thing on us, just time we left and rook our money somewhere else.
These centers are not what they used to be anymore. They are becoming just another McDonald’s.

Best way to get here is by MRT and Maxwell is the one to go to. The food centre is only a short walk away from there.
There are heaps of stalls and we arrived just before the lunch rush but once it gets to that time, you will see the queues swell up at the most popular stalls. There are lots of affordable options and you’re unsure where to purchase from, just see where the locals are lining up and join that queue and you can’t go wrong. Whether you want Hainanese Chicken Rice, Duck Noodles, Seafood, etc, you will be able to find it here.
Worth visiting and eat to your heart’s content.

Came for lunch and it was packed, very hard to grab a seat at a table. The market is massive with 3-4 rows of stalls that span the length of the building. We enjoyed the chicken rendang from Old Nyonya as well as the duck noodles from Duck Noodle Oriental Stall Duck Rice. We did not enjoy the Oyster cake (tasted very fishy and was too heavily fried for our liking). We also had some pork buns which were good and tried mee goreng from one of the halal stalls close to the end of the market (maybe 3rd from the end) but it was disappointing. The chicken rendang was outstanding though and we would recommend going there just to try it.

Maxwell Food Centre is one of the more popular Hawker Centers in Singapore and is located in Chinatown. There are plenty of tables with high turnover so just look for some empty ones to sit at. You can reserve a table by putting down a packet of tissues on the table to signify that you claimed it. While we were here, we purchased food at Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice. There are a lot of imitators in the same center but you’re welcome to dine there if you don’t want to brave the queue. We were there for one thing and one thing only. Lucky for us, the line wasn’t too long. Bring your own napkins and the restrooms could be cleaner. You have to bus your own table so that the cleaning staff can return the trays and utensils to the food stalls. It’s worth a visit if you’re in Singapore.

Went around 7 PM on a Monday and a lot of things were closed already, which was super disappointing because according to Google maps, Maxwell doesn't close until 2 AM. I guess it really just depends on the stall and if they sell out. We ate a couple of skewers and some fresh fruit juices just to hold us over.
We came back here the same night at around 11:30 for a midnight snack and almost everything was closed. We ended up getting food from this one stall with a massive line. We found out they had a massive line because it was one of the only ones left that was still selling food. It was a stall selling wantan mee, which wasn't bad.
The one we wanted to check out - Tian Tian Chicken Rice, was already closed at that time. Luckily, our hotel was only about a 10 minute walk away so we came back early on another day and there was no line for it. That was around 9:30 in the morning, and on the flip side - I noticed a lot of stalls weren't open yet. That being said, they probably stagger their opening times based on their competition/clientele? But I don't know, that could be a Mel fact.
Definitely worth checking out a few times (only if you're staying nearby. If not, you should probably only come once and it should be early for Tian Tian) because it seems if you come at different times, different stalls will be open.

Do they still open between 8PM to 9PM? Do they do take away order? In case the place is busy and we can't find any place to sit.
Written 4 September 2022

Are stalls open at 8am in the morning?
Written 14 December 2019
I am told that breakfast there is very good. Many people working nearby would stop here for breakfast before going on to their offices. Almost all stalls are open and very busy for lunch
