Masjid Malabar, or Malabar Muslim Jama-Ath Mosque to give it its full name, is the only Malabar mosque in Singapore and dates from 1962. In 1927, Malabar Muslims in Singapore, who originally came from Kerala in India, formed the Malabar Muslim Jama'ath, an association to look after their community, mostly made up of textile and jewelry workers. The foundation stone... More

Masjid Malabar is a lovely piece of architecture and one of the must see Mosques in Singapore. We had a lovely walk of Singapore taking a look at all the temples and mosques we could find - we recommend that you take time to explore some of them yourselves.

This mosque can be reached by foot from either Lavender or Bugis mrt stations. There's not much to be seen inside, but the outside looks quite pretty.

Mosque is location not far from Lavender MRT station. It is right on the corner of an intersection. Blue color is the dominant of the exterior look. Clean and well maintained.

Those long hot Singapore afternoons are unforgiving. Like how the oasis is always only a mirage in the desert, the cool blue tiles of the Malabar Mosque drew our attention to rest under its cool shade. Infidel, sinner & non-believer, we were free to wash our faces & cool off & escape Singapore’s blasting midday heat. The Malabar Mosque’s main... More

Staying in Kampong Glam

Neighbourhood Profile
Kampong Glam
This traditionally Malay enclave of Singapore offers an alluring array of shops, cafes, and bars. A walk down Haji Lane offers quirky shopping, while one block over, Arab Street is a treasure trove of brightly coloured fabrics, clothing, and Turkish rugs. Stop for a leisurely coffee or cocktail and watch local kids play traditional games along the lane. Also home to the Malay Heritage Centre and one of Singapore’s most prominent mosques (Sultan Mosque), Kampong Glam is a must-visit for a tantalizing taste of Malay life in this city.
