I strolled my way from the rail corridor to this park. This is a wonderful park, a little green dot at this dynamic science research hub of Singapore. As I walked along the forest canopy boardwalk, I could hear the pleasant chirping of the birds.
It was a real contrast of the environment when I proceeded to the Hatch innovation center at the Launchpad (Ayer Rajah Crescent) for the start-up exhibition. Here, it was latest technology innovation, it was Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the project application highlights. The pace of the modern world is changing so fast, and the AI tsunami has swept and penetrated almost every facet of our workplace and I sometimes wondered if I am still relevant in terms of my current knowledge and skills.
In the Home Team workplace, I never expect AI can perform and replace manual counting of prison inmates; fall detection in prison cells; detection of stress signals from facial expressions of frontline paramedics and firefighters and indoor tracking and monitoring of movement of staff. AI is really changing the world and at a very fast pace.
But for those working at this science hub, a stroll at this one-north park of greenery, listening to the bird melodies would be rejuvenating to the body and soul.

Albert Einstein once said `Once you stop learning, you start dying.' Today, I had the opportunity to come with my colleagues on a learning visit to TECHXplore Innovation event at JTC Launchpad@one north.
From the exhibition booths at the Meeting Point and at the Ace Ideation Centre to the Tech talks at Hatch, it was just amazing and enlightening to learn that the Home Team Agencies (Police, SCDF, ICA, ISD, CNB and SPS) are supported by a whole ecosystem of scientists and engineers under HTX to deliver scientific innovative solutions to the challenges faced by the frontline officers.
The application of Artificial Intelligence in Handwriting Analysis; the Visual Quality enhancement for Parcel screening; the Novel Detection of Toxic Industrial Chemicals in the Air; Virtual Reality for Fire-fighting Operations; Facial Recognition Technology; Rapid PCT for Biowarfare Agent Identification, etc were currently being experimented and implemented in the various frontline agencies. With HTX, Home Team Agencies will always be in the forefront to tap on the potential of the latest advancement in science and technology and come up with innovative solutions to improve the operational efficiency of the Home Team. Take for example, DNA forensic science has improved Police capability in crime solving and CCTV surveillance in the detection and prevention of crime.
There was free flow of refreshment and beverages, and I fully enjoyed this learning trip.
One-North is really a big modern `metropolis'. From Stirling Road, I took a walk via the Rail Corridor and Woking Road to come here. After the event, I roamed around one-north Park at the Bio polis and Fusionopolis South and the Wessex estate to explore this small acre of lush greenery. I was surprised to find a Forest Canopy Boardwalk at the park. One-North is abundant with bird life. There were about 31 species of birds spotted in this area such as the Asian Glossy Starling, the Long-tailed Parakeet and Pink-necked Green Pigeon. The park is designed to conserve and enhance this refuge for birds by preserving as much of its natural forest as possible and growing additional bird attracting plants and trees. The atmosphere at Wessex Estate is so serene and tranquil and I really enjoyed the solitary walk among the black and white houses.
Life is a balance of the yin and yang. The park is a natural conducive environment for the stimulation of innovative ideas. Eureka - just like Archimedes who discovered the Archimedes' Principle while taking his bath. Maybe one day, there will be a spark of discovery from another Archimedes while taking a walk at this nature park.

Five minutes walk from One-North MRT Station exit B leads to the first half of this park: Fusionopolis South. This half of the park includes many Malayan Cherries Trees and lovely trees with chartreuse leaves. The boardwalk and path are built along the fringe of the secondary forest so it is suitable for bird watching. The second half of the park: Fusionopolis North is an amazing manicured park with a very large varieties of flowering plants, trees quite like a compact botanic gardens. There are two fairly large pavilions and a creative playground with wooden Tree Stump Climb, log see-saw, Wobble Bridge etc in a sand pit called Nature Playgarden. it is very suitable for young children from 1.5 years onwards.
At the Playgarden, there is also Sensory Walk for one to go barefoot and feel the different textures. There are Myrtle Walk with the red-leaves Crepe Myrtle, Gelam Walk highlighting the native Gelam trees with its papery bark and a butterfly trail with many butterflies sucking nectar from specially selected flowering plants such as the Milkweed, Lantana and Butterfly Bush.
This park also connects to the newly built Wilmar Headquarter by a short sloping trail amidst the man-made waterfall and ponds. It is a very pretty park with its wide varieties of unique plants and trees in one single park.
