About
Singapore Art Museum (SAM) opened its doors in 1996 as the first fully dedicated visual arts museum in Singapore. Since then, we have built one of the world's most important collections of contemporary art by artists from Singapore, Southeast Asia and Asia. Our museum buildings are undergoing a major transformation. Follow our journey on our blog at singaporeartmuseum.sg/blog and visit our new venue at SAM at Tanjong Pagar Distripark.

Absolutely love this place! I recommend anyone who is in Singapore to go and visit. Wonderful curated artwork which was great to get to know some of the very talented local artists. I love the artworks of Sarah Choo Jing! Cant wait to be back

Singapore Art Museum’s buildings were once home to Catholic boys' schools – St. Joseph’s Institution on Bras Basah Road and Catholic High School on Queen Street.
Both are presently closed for renovation.
However, outside the Singapore Art Museum at 8Q (the former Catholic High School), there is a site-specific large mural by artists, Darel Seow and Lee Xin Li.
This mural is titled An Unnatural History. This mural combines Darel Seow’s passion for natural history and storytelling, and Lee Xin Li’s interest in heritage and architecture.
There is a "An Unnatural History" website, where one take a step back into history and see which of these storied landmarks can be identified as well as the 168 species of animals on the murals.
Sadly this mural was only for a temporary period until 6 June.

If you're a lover of the arts, you'll like that they hold exhibitions with different themes and feature different artists quite regularly. Nice museum with many concurrently running exhibitions.
Many are kids family friendly on the ground floor and more grown ups one on the upper floor.

Really good and interesting museum. It explains more about the history of Singapore but in an interactive way. All the digital experience is amazing! I loved the cinema!

The building is nice and their staff is friendly.

If visiting Singapore is definitely worth to visit.

This is such a graceful building that has been tastefully restored to house a wonderful vollection of general and cultural.
This building was once the Singapore seat of rule and law and its historic past can be imagined on the lawns at the front.
If you like a gallery...you'll love a visit here. I spent a day wandering through both buildings and had a very restful time soaking up the art. Take a break with tea and tea and finnish off with a cocktails in the upper bar and breathe in the view before you.

I wasn’t sure quite what to expect in contemporary art at the SAM (Singapore Art Museum). It encompasses many types of creative modern art, such as photography, painting, sculpture, video, interactive exhibits, and others produced from the mid-20th century onwards. I think it includes almost anything that people would look at and find to be artistic and made with the hope that some would find modern, distinctive, and interesting to look at. The collection is nice, but for me not amazingly beautiful. However, I’ll rate SAM as Very Good, as I did find many of the very unique creative pieces to be artistic.
