- Robert GaxiolaSingapore, Singapore14 contributionsVisit early or LateLike any all-day breakfast, Singapore's Botanic Gardens are always worth a visit. I like to visit outside of concert hours as there are just less phones and cameras about. But for the best experience, I would recommend an early start or near closing hours so you can enjoy the cooler air and soak in the greenery and beautiful orchids. The National Orchid Garden is itself worth the ticket as it features some of Singapore's finest creations. Included the Vanda Miss Joaquim, this hybrid from 1893 was crowned as Singapore's national flower in 1981. Other celebrity orchids worth a mention are Elton John, Princess Dianna, Jackie Chan and Nelson Mandela. I ignore the names myself and just try and soak in the curated beauty of these gardens at the slowest pace possible.Visited July 2019Written 22 May 2020
- chinggis2018Singapore, Singapore9 contributionsFabulous FlowersIf you are visiting the Botanic Gardens in Singapore, which are absolutely stunning by the way, you must complete the visit by entering the National Orchid Garden. Entry to Botanic Gardens is free, but to enter the Orchid Garden you need to pay $5 per person (price correct at the time I was there). It is well worth it. Inside the Orchid Garden it is much quieter, almost tranquil (because of the fee to get in), beautiful flowers and plants, little water displays and archways make peaceful and relaxing moods. Great to spend an hour or so to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Best time to go would be morning or late afternoon, middle of the day is usually just too hot. I gave 4 stars and not 5 because the area is small compared to other stately gardens I have been in and because of the heat I think there should be somewhere inside where you can buy cold drinks.Visited September 2019Written 6 March 2020
- Han_yinuWellington, New Zealand533 contributionsBeautiful Garden and ParkWent on a hot sunny Sunday when it is most popular with groups and couples having picnics in the shade. I arrived at the Botanic Garden MRT entrance and signposting to the Orchid Garden is very good, it is approx 1.2 km walk to the Orchid Gardens. At the entrance (to the Orchid Gardens) are stalls selling ice cream, drinks, food, etc. A gift shop (with a wonderfully cool fan to stand under), with access to toilets and water dispenser. I truly appreciated the discounted 60 yrs and over ticket price of $1 instead of the full adult ticket price of $5. I chose to do a circuitous route to return to the gift shop and back to the same MRT station by a slightly different walking (again well marked) route. If it is very hot and sunny, I strongly recommend a sunhat or an umbrella. A really nice way to spend an afternoon.Visited January 2020Written 11 January 2020

Had been to botanic gardens a few times in past but had never visited the orchid garden - so pleased we did. Much bigger than we expected and beautifully laid out. So much effort has gone into making the most lavish gardens. The greenhouse was a nice cool contrast to the humidity. There is a fee but it is only $3 for seniors (got to be some advantage to getting older!). Definitely recommend.

Beautiful! Well planned garden with clear signage and gorgeous displays. We took refuge in the cool greenhouse for a bit. Would definitely return.

What a wonderful place to visit, nicely maintained gardens.
The orchid house does have a fee to get into but it’s well worth it.
The only negative I have is that it’s quite a walk to the orchid house, some form of transport to get around the gardens would be good, also not much shade from the very hot sun.
Definitely worth a visit.

Beautiful flowers to see, however, the price is quite high for 2 foreign students. The price for the locals is much lower.

What a collection of orchids! OMG! I have never ever seen such a large collection of orchids under one roof. OfCourse, they have created/ simulated the environment under a big enclosure. What a hard work to maintain all these.

We stopped by the National Orchid Garden as part of a stop with Big Bus Tours. A great decision. We spent 1-2 hours at a fantastic array of orchids in all shapes and colours. Especially, the cool house was full of impressive displays of colour. Well worth the visit to see the national flower in all its varieties.

The National Orchid gatden, Singapore is one of most beaitiful garden i have seen. The garden hosts a wide variety of orchids which are all in bloom. The garden is a visual treat.Other than orchids there are other plants like ferns, airplants, carnivorous plants, bromeliads etc. Some of the colors n size of the plants r mind blowing. An orchid lover can spend hours together watching these beauties. We were lucky to see a monotor lizard too.The only drawback is that there is not much shady area to rest .To sum up a visit to this place is a must.

nejkrásnější část botanické zahrady, nezapomenutelné, ... vedeli jste, že vanilka je vlastně také orchidea z čeledi vstavačovitých? jenom celá plocha je poněkud nepřehledná, a chaotická / doporučuji vyfotit si plánek abyste o nic neprisli, …. a to nejsem zadny botanik a nepoznám ani polovinu kytek na vlastní zahradě bez iNaturalist / visualni bomba.
the most beautiful part of the botanic garden, unforgettable, ... did you know that vanilla is an orchid? only the whole area is somewhat confusing and chaotic / I recommend taking a picture of the map so you don't miss anything, and I'm not a botanist and I don't even know half of the flowers in my own garden without iNaturalist. Visual bomb.

How much is the entry price for 2 adults to see Orchid Gardens ?
Myrm
Cambridge, UK18,240 contributions
Its gone up considerably since before the pandemic for visitors and is now $15 for entry.
Still very much worth it though in my opinion - the new Montaine area is stunning as a redevelopment.
Best time of year to visit

The Orchid Garden is a year round attraction. Its continuously maintained to put the best flowers in the displays in the best condition. Time of year wont affect the trip timing but you will want to see if the gardens are blocked off in whole or in part for either renovations or for events that may affect the timings of a visit.

I am coming back in 2021, will the gardens still be as awesome or are there more things to add? We are coming in April so hopefully the weather will be perfect and so will the orchids and plumerias be in bloom?

Hello! The orchids were stunning when I was there in late March this year and the gardens were magnificent - I'm not sure what they'll be like in 2021 although Singapore sets such high standards, I'm sure you won't go wrong paying the gardens a visit! I'm sorry I can't be more helpful.

what is the quickest way to get to the National orchard gardens singapore
cpremags
Singapore, Singapore17 contributions
"quickest way" - that's a tricky one, as not sure which way one would be coming from. This is the best I can do, in the circumstances:
By Train:
Alight at the Botanic Gardens Station which is about a 20-minute walk to the National Orchid Garden.
By Bus:
Tanglin Gate - Take bus number 7, 75, 77, 105, 106, 123, 174 and alight along Napier Road. The National Orchid Garden is about a 15-minute walk from the Garden's Tanglin Gate.
Bukit Timah Gate - Take bus number 48, 66, 67, 151, 153, 154, 156, 170, 171, 186 and alight along Bukit Timah Road. The National Orchid Garden is about 20-minute walk from the Garden's Bukit Timah Gate.
By Car/Taxi:
Nearest Parking is available at the Tyersall Gate Carpark at Tyersall Avenue and Nassim Gate Visitor Centre Carpark at Cluny Road. Note the Nassim Visitor Centre (Nassim Gate) is a 12 minute walk to the National Orchid Garden.
The nearest taxi drop-off point is at the Drop-off point at Learning Forest, Tyersall Gate entrance.
Hope it is useful, from all perspectives. Lovely orchids, hybrids included and VVIP ones too.

Hi, I am planning a visit with two kids.
Which of these gardens would you recommend for kids?
Cloud forest, Botanic, Gardens by the Bay or the Orchid Garden
and how much time should I reserve for these?
and what time of the day is best?
Kurrywurst
East Coast, Singapore
Living in Singapore , basically it´s always hot in Singapore, however, problem is more the high humidity. So first advice (if u allow me 2 do) from my side, don´t pack too much in the daily program. :-)
Having 3 kids by myself, can tell you that they found orchid garden pretty boring, instead of my wife.....so this is more for adults.
With kids would go to cloud forest, another traveller above describred perfect what u can do.
Garden by the bay is good, kids can run around (tell them to be carfull crossing the roads, they have to share with bicycle and e-scooter riders, which some are very fast and especially the escooter really silent. There are also special cafe bars and restaurants for kids, they will enjoy for sure.
There is also a huge foodcourt, were you can get BBQ all kinds of food. I like this prawns grilled with a cold beer.....fantastic!
Howver, why not instead of of all of this visit with your kids Sentosa Island? This is entertainment for the whole family. I am sure after this, you will be hero. Prebooking is recommended, because to line up in th emorning for tickets can spoil the whole day. You can get the tickets via internet, some hotels offer ticket service as well.
Don´t forget to book a DUCK Tour! This is a swimming bus, first u ride through Singapore, and then "jump" into Kallang river and drive like a boat sightseeing.....wise....very funny.
BTW: You can go to the sportshub as well, there ur kids can climb, iceskate, bowling........
If you have more questions....ask!
Hope I could help.

Yes you can. Taxis in singapore cam be a bit expensive. You can take public transport like the met (botanical gardens mrt) and even the bus. Only drawback is that if you travel on public transport you need to walk a lot. 😊

Is the garden in full bloom throughout the year or is there a particular time frame to visit?
