When visiting the Esplanade Park you can see the former Indian National Army (INA) monument which the National Heritage Board considers a WWII monument. It sits upon the site of an earlier monument to the INA that was erected during the Japanese occupation and then demolished upon the return of the British to Singapore back in 1945.

The present day memorial was built and placed at this spot in 1995 and is of a simple and modest design, with a historical account of the INA written upon the back side. It is an interesting link to Singapore's past and one of several decent attractions that can be viewed at the Esplanade Park.

At the Esplanade Park, you can also see the Cenotaph, a memorial dedicated to British soldiers who lost their lives during the war. You can also see the nice pagoda monument called the Lim Bo Seng Memorial dedicated to the national patriot and resistance fighter by that name and the Tan Kim Seng Fountain. Collectively the attractions at Esplanade Park make a stop here worth your time and effort.

INA memorial is a must visit for any Indian. It honors the Indian National Army who fought for the independence of the country against the British.

Its not easy to find this small memorial. Its located inside a garden near Esplanade. There is a signboard but still we could locate this place with great difficulty.

Hope after the visit of Honorable Prime Minister of India, there are clear sign boards and more Indians visit here.

Read in history books how Netaji Subash Chandra Bose from Bengal, India, travelled all the way to Singapore to form the Indian National Army in a bid to free India from the British Colonial Rule. Unfortunately, he sided the Japanese army, thus, when they fell, the Indian National Army was disbanded. The original monument was demolished and in its place stands a nice memorial.

After visiting Changi prison and reading about how the British and Commonwealth troops suffered as POW's under the Japanese, it was hard to visit and understand how the Indian National Army - Indian troops formerly attached to the British army defending Singapore and remain unbiased to the storyof Indian troops, who changed sides and threw their lot in with the Japanese army following the capture of Singapore. The original monument was destroyed by Mountbatten in 1945, this one is not that impressive and it took us a while to find it. Not really worth the effort.

The INA marker is located in Esplanade park in downtown. Even though there was some construction going on at the park, there are plenty of signs to help you locate the marker. Not sure what some of the folks here are complaining about. Got to give it to Singapore, the Japanese occupation was a dark period for the majority Chinese, but here they are honoring a man and a movement (albeit a short lived one) who collaborated with the Japanese.

A must see for Indians and history lovers in my opinion. It's easy to look back and criticize the man but at that time he probably felt he had no other option. His sole objective was to free India from British rule. History is history whether you like it or not and I thank Singapore for honoring Bose and the countless INA soldiers who fought and died in WW2.

This was a waste of hot, sunny afternoon. The road signs say the memorial is 300 meters away, but nothing there. There is a lot of construction and my worry is that the memorial is hidden within the construction zone. I wished they could tell you where it was. the spot suggested on Google Maps also turned out nothing - so they may have moved it.

It's a monument to honour the brave INA soldiers who fought for Indian Freedom, for few they were on wrong side but in the end they had given their life for Indian freedom. Thanks Singapore government for reconstructing this when britishers destroyed it after recapturing of Singapore after war.
Situated at esplanade park, easy to find, Indians visiting Singapore should must visit this place to pay respect to Netaji and brave soldiers.

This site should occupy you for all of 30 seconds as you wander around the Esplanade vicinity. Not too much to see, just a marker where the original monument once briefly stood.

The Indian National Army (INA) was created by Indian leader, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, to overthrow the British rulers of India and for this purpose, he allied with the Japanese during the second World War. However, in spite of some early victories, they were eventually forced to retreat and surrender as the Allies won the War. This plaque commemorates the same, but evokes mixed feelings.

On the one hand, it honours those thousands of Indian expatriates, both men and women who left behind all they had to wage a war against a powerful force in hostile conditions, with little or no military training. At the same time, one also needs to ponder on the inhuman atrocities carried out by the occupying Japanese forces on the populace of Singapore. This plaque serves as a reminder that wars are not a solution to any issue; they only inflict suffering on people on either side and even on those not directly involved.
