MacRitchie Nature Trail
MacRitchie Nature Trail
4.5
About
A short trip from the city center lies the serenity of MacRitchie Reservoir, part of Singapore’s water catchment system that captures rain water to help supply the island’s growing population. Trails surround the park, which has an upgraded visitor’s center featuring a café, restrooms and information station. The best views are from the TreeTop Walk, a 250-meter suspension bridge across the rainforest canopy, which can be accessed along the seven-kilometer Venus Loop. Wear hiking shoes and bring water.

- Fred TReno, Nevada741 contributionsTree Top Walk closed on Mondays; Jelutong tower has great viewsI walked / hiked on some of the many trails that exist in the free park. My main goal was the Tree Top Walk. When I got to the bridge at the start, it was closed (a guy walking nearby said it is closed on Mondays). So, I went to Jelutong tower and climbed it. It is taller than the nearby trees, so one gets a great view of the lake, trees, and buildings in the distance. When I walked thru Windsor Nature Park, I encountered a troup of about 20 monkeys, a wild boar with baby, and a monitor lizard. It was several hours of walking to do all of that.Visited January 2020Written 19 January 2020

We started at the Windsor Park end, walked up to the Tree Top trail and then did a loop back. Can get quite busy in parts, but there are also quieter sections if you go slightly off the main circuit.Visited April 2020Written 19 June 2020
- CanberraSteve38233 contributionsInto the jungle, so close to the centre of the cityPerhaps the 12-kilometre walk around the MacRitchie Reservoir is not one of the stand-out visitor attractions of Singapore, but I loved it. It's so close to central Singapore and so easily accessible, but within minutes I was away from the crowded city. The boardwalk sections of the trail were particularly beautiful but so were the forest trails. Even on a hot day, things were shady. The trails are popular with local fitness enthusiasts and families, all of whom were observing COVID safety rules most carefully.Visited March 2022Written 2 April 2022

Really nice place to run, but prepare yourself for a proper trail with tree roots on the ground, gravel, mud, old ruined steps and so on. Also better look around: there are many interesting creatures and lots of strange noises. Highly recommend! (Don’t forget the water, I couldn’t find water stations)

Excellent track for the trail experience. Well maintained. Unfortunately we couldn't cover the hanging bridge as it was holiday. Otherwise it was a memorable experience. We covered 10KM up and down and it was a worthwhile. Must visit.

Nice park with a wild nature. Most of the walking is under the trees. I finished totally wet ; take clothes change. Top tree walk has a lot of stairs ; not for everyone.
You can see monkeys, turtles and butterflies.

11 KM is well maintained for walking and running. Except in one place- there is no facility for toilet and drinking water. And zero rescue team anywhere to be seen
No alert signage for aged and low BP / Diabetes/ weak persons on unsuitabiliry of the full walk of 11 km trail
Every other tourist place in Singapore is splendid. This trail service unbecoming of Singapore

Beautiful nature trail which is free to enter. Highly recommend doing the canopy treetop walk to obtain a lovely view above the forest. Bring your own water and snacks as there is nowhere to get food and drink.

This walk was a highlight for us due to the plentiful wildlife (macaque monkeys everywhere!) and flora + fauna. Gorgeous spot.

This was a moderate trail, however on your way you will encounter monkeys. Do not bring any food with you. If you don't look at them and just keep walking, they will not harm you. The treetop walk it's amazing, the height and view is the best part. The bridge sways a bit so be mindful if you're afraid of heights this is not for you. A nice time to see some nature in the city state.

Our taxi driver never heard of this. God knows how, this was our highlight in Singapore!! Lots of different wildlife, nature, and serenity everywhere. What a stunning location and walk (we walked about 3 hrs, even in the rain we felt covered largely by the canopy).

Perfect place to escape from the hustle and bustle of city life and get a good work out. Advice fella joggers and hikers to wear practical shoes that can withstand the mud and unlevelled pathways. Can be slippery. Recommend mosquito patch when coming here.

We have a 6mnth baby boy and would like to do a trip to MacRitchie but I am not keen on taking a taxi without a carseat. Can you store carseats at the visitor centre? Or is there another way to deal with the journey to MR and being able to do around the lake with a baby carrier.

Hi, James Tan, I read and am keen to hike the same route as yours from Mushroom cafe to Bukit Timah Summit.
However, based on the trail, could you advise in more detail, from the Ammo Camp after the BKE, how do I reach the Pipeline Trail? I intend to to take pictures of the view from the Pipeline. I have intended to hike this trail this coming weekend 27 Feb 2021.
Many thanks.

MacRitchie Resevoir offers a wide variety of trails. The nature reserve view is most spectacular from the edge side of the boardwalk where it's peaceful and easy to walk along.
It's not advisable to walk along the paths after sunset as it gets quite dark and it isn't well lit.
Be sure to watch out for the monkeys that lurk in the shadows of the jungle. Keep an eye on your belongings as they may want to wear your sunglasses or drink your water bottles.
There are several routes which are safe to walk along. If you desire an adrenaline rush then hike to the Tree Tops. If you are keen, be sure to wear proper footwear like running shoes or hiking boots as it can get quite muddy in some parts especially if it has just rained. Be sure to bring mosquito repellent to prevent bites during the summer months when it tends to rain a lot more.
I've been on this hike 5 times during different months of the year and every time I see something new and always finished the hike feeling rejuvenated!
You will love it. Have fun exploring!
