About
Located within Mandai Wildlife Reserve, River Wonders is home to one of the world’s largest collections of freshwater vertebrates, with over 11,000 animal specimens representing close to 260 species as well as 400 plant species. The park highlights the wonders of tropical freshwater ecosystems and the need to protect them. Through immersive wildlife encounters and a relaxing experience, River Wonders hopes to inspire a sense of awe at the variety of freshwater life, restore visitors’ connections to the natural world and empower them to protect freshwater habitats and the wildlife dependent on them. Visitors can learn about iconic river giants like the highly threatened Mekong giant catfish and giant freshwater stingray, giant arapaimas, green anaconda and Antillean manatees. The park is also home to giant pandas.

    Great!
One of the quieter parks at the Mandai Wildlife Reserve, especially later in the day. It has lots of marine species, and also the Singapore Zoo Pandas! The boat ride you can take for 5 SGD allows you to see a lot of Amazon river animals up close, and there is also a free walkthrough that allows you to enter an exhibit where you can meet the Tamarin monkeys face-to-face. Love this place.

    Unique
We decided to go to River Wonders as the concept appealed to us. Right decision! What a lovely unique zoo build around the concept of fresh water animals. The consequence: an array of fresh water fish you normally never see, including some massive ones. Add to that the manatees and animals around the rivers, such as jaguars. Finally, throw in pandas and a boat ride and put all of that under a covered walkway and you have an excellent zoo.

    Good experience
What an amazing experience of Singapore zoo and freshwater animals. You can witness number of freshwater animals. The river safari gives a different experience though the spotting of animals during ride depends on your luck. Avoid afternoon hours for better spotting. The Giant Panda and other rare animals make it unique.

    River Wonders
A nice park but disappointing on the day as water ride not working. After 40 minutes of queuing everyone had to leave. Absolute chaos and expected to rejoin queue if reopened with no priority. Staff did not appear to know what to do. No offer of any financial recompense. Offered a voucher to use on another day. Not an option for overseas visitors.

Much smaller than the Singapore Zoo, but still excellent
River Wonders (which we used to call River Safari) is much smaller than the other Mandai parks, and I think 3 hours should suffice for most people. In our case, we got there around 10 am, took our sweet time, went around the park twice, and killed time here and there because we had Night Safari tickets for that evening. I don't necessarily recommend doing what we did, but we do enjoy second rounds because we get to linger over our favorite parts (the mudskippers, the pandas...) and catch Keeper Talks that we didn't see the first time. I also got an iced coffee to go at the entrance and it was just a great day! One thing I love about the place is that it's got a lot of coverage so you are sheltered from the sun and rain. There are lots of benches for you to sit and rest by a fan, and they have vending machines for cold drinks and ice cream. The boat ride was temporarily stopped while it rained and re-opened later. There also seemed to always be a line for it, but when we showed up with our tickets*, we moved fairly quickly. The ride is short but fun. If you're in the front of the boat, expect to get splashed a bit though I'd argue that, on a hot day, that's not necessarily a bad thing. (*Our tickets weren't timed, and they were included when we bought the 4-park package: Zoo, River Wonders (RW), Night Safari (NS), and Bird Paradise (BP).) Definitely download the Mandai app. Space is limited for the "Once Upon a River" show, and you can use the app to start reserving seats 2 hours before it begins. What I did was set a timer on my phone to know exactly when to get on the app and register. It's free and it sends you an email that you show the staff. Doors open 30 min before the show so you might want to be there a bit before that to ensure good seats (the staff had the rows filled from the front to the back). In our case, we got to be in the front row and very close to the action. The capybaras were so cute!! For this review, I debated between giving River Wonders 4 or 5 stars, but in the end, for its size and scope, it did a really good job at highlighting the beauty of life in rivers around the world. It might only seem underwhelming if it's judged on the same level as the Singapore Zoo, which is enormous. But as a stand-alone, River Wonders allowed us to have a really good time so it's a 5/5 from us.

Good one, but not the best among the 4 parks
Among the 4 parks, following would be my recommendation on priority. Bird park Zoo River wonder Night safari If you have visited Sea aquarium then you have already seen more than half of aquatic animals displayed in River Wonders. After watching bird and zoo shows, 'once upon a river' show at River Wonders was average. Highlights of this place are panda and amazon boat ride. Interestingly, they have kept panda here and not in zoo...so just to see Panda you have to buy River wonder ticket. We saw one panda Kia, but other 2 Jia and Lele were no where to be seen. If you are really short on time, River wonders can be skipped. We visited after zoo and spent 4-6:30 watching show, boat ride and panda along with some River info on the way out. If you want to see the place entirely, download the map and spend the day. Directions are really poor, map is must

    Love the pandas
We went here rather than the main zoo because we really wanted to see the pandas. They did not disappoint and were out and about and playing in their enclosure. The rest of the park was ok - lots of fish. The otters and manatees were good to see. Overall we enjoyed our visit. It did feel a shame we couldn't see more land animals in the day and would have had to buy the zoo ticket. The show was cute though you need to book 2 hours ahead online- this is easy to do. We arrived at 3pm and went to the night safari afterwards - I think you could arrive at 4pm and still do river wonders and night safari together comfortably.

    Go for the manatees!
It was a good experience, learned a lot about rivers around the world and their ecology. The boat ride was good, saves a little time rather than walking about. Tickets for the boat ride can be bought there and it’s SGD5. Was really interested to join the Manatee Mania where you can feed and interact with the manatees. Online ticket purchase says minimum is for 2 pax. Being a solo traveler, what I did was to go there and ask if there’s space for more to join, maximum per session is only 8 pax. I was lucky to be able to get a spot. Tickets for this is SGD118 per pax. Money well spent and a fantastic experience interacting with these gentle beings!

    A nice afternoon.
We incorporated our visit with our trip to the zoo next door. All the tanks are well maintained, and the fish are all active. I loved seeing the manatee in the last big tank. But the best bit was the pandas. We did the river boat ride, which is an extra small charge. We spent a few hours so with the zoo and river wonders we spent the whole day.

Great day out for the family
River Wonders was our second day at the zoo, with Singapore zoo yesterday. It is a totally different zoo and well worth visiting to see the pandas, red pandas, capybara and river otters. Don’t miss the presentations at the River Plaza - make sure you book to avoid disappointment. The capybaras are incredible. Boat ride at $5 a person pretty good as only way to see some of the animals. Staff very friendly. Good shade and access for those with prams/ wheelchairs.

Lovely park with many sea-life creatures, the safari ride is additional cost but you can ride it multiple times in order to see the animals. Very clean and plenty of shade. Worth a visit with multi park passes. Reasonable price.

Small enclosures, the poor animals you see on that little boat ride in tiny spaces, very stressed red panda pacing, dead fish in the tanks, even saw a dead turtle, and very upsetting to see Manatees in a tank - I was expecting to see them in the river. A horrible experience, we were so upset we abandoned our tickets for the Night Safari, didn’t want to see any more animals suffering.

Essentially the aquarium / water based part of Singapore's Mandai Zoo. The really wonderful thing is that it is mostly undercover which makes it suitable whether it's super hot and sunny or wet and stormy! Very comprehensive and with exhibits organised by regions, it is informative and fascinating. The highlight for kids will be the "River Cruise" boat ride (separate ticket purchase required) which offers some gentle excitement and chance to get a little wet as the boat splashes along a route through the Exhibit. It was also a great chance to rest the feet.
Lots of variety of animals in display. A fun experience for sure!
Note there is a lot of walking, moderate fitness and good walking shoes are essential.

We chose river wonders because my kids really wanted to see the pandas. And yes the pandas were awesome, but sadly the rest of the park wasn't. The day we went it was raining. This meant that the boat ride wasn't operating so we were unable to see those animals. The show is at 11.30, 2.30 and later in the afternoon. We arrived at 11 so did not rush to see the show which is at the far end of the park, only to then find by 12.30 we had seen everything we could see (and we really didn't rush) and didn't know how to entertain small kids for another 2 hours. There is no playground or anything here. So at best without the boat and the show there is 1.5 hours of entertainment, making this extremely expensive. Unless you are desperate to see pandas, I'd give it a miss.

Manatee Mania is a must do. We signed up for the Manatee Mania tour, and it was a once in a lifetime experience. Should be on your bucket list if you are in Singapore. You never get an opportunity for a personal interaction with the manatees. We went on a Monday and the park was empty, no lines, no wait, no crowds.

Sure it’s called River Wonders but the best part was pandas. The panda area is well air conditioned and worth it just for a break from the heat. On a Sunday in late February, there was a sparse crowd and we were able to linger and enjoy the pandas being fat, lazy, and cute. The rest of the park was fine. The boat cruise was nice but animals sleep most of the day so you don’t see much. You won’t miss much by skipping it. If you are going to the zoo anyway, it’s a nice add on. They were side to put the pandas here so you buy another ticket.

Well worth a visit, even if it’s to see the Pandas. The Amazon river ride is fun but sadly too short. Layout of the park was a little confusing so we only got to see a portion of the park before my 5 year old got tired (we had done the Bird Park earlier in the afternoon). Experience was impacted by a tired 5 year old but still well worth visiting.

On 28 December 2023, we visited the River Safari and the Horseshoe Crab exhibit which was manned by Eddie. Eddie was extremely knowledgeable about the evolution through to modern day story of the Horseshoe Crab and he made our visit a memorable one. Thank you very much, Eddie! You deserve a shout-out :D

My wife & I visited the Singapore Zoo, “River Wonders” yesterday, as part of a big day, great panda section, the boat ride was fantastic, probably the best part of this section!

The river ride is not accessible for people with disabilities. This is however the only way to see for example Capybaras.
