About
The main purpose of fishing was to hunt for food, but in our modern era, it has evolved into something more. It teaches us valuable lessons in life such as patience, determination, perseverance, and acceptance of what life gives us. The list goes on. And the more we learn from it, the more we will appreciate what the world offers to us. By instilling a correct and positive attitude, we will create a fishing community that cares for our natural environment. We will learn that life is not just putting food on our families' table. The world is such a wonderful place and only when we can be in harmony with it, that we will be able to see deeper into our existence.

Received it as a gift , indeed a special gift!
The instructor is friendly and helpful. and he makes sure the group of us are able to know the basic fishing technique.
A great day begins with a short boat ride to the island, and hand on lesson starts with all equipment provided.
Highly recommended , for all ages.

I joined the Beginner Angler's course. The course is definitely well structured and well prepared. The staff are very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable about fishing. All equipments are provided, and lunch can be catered if required. The course is conducted on a quiet little island. There were nine students attending the course that day. I learned a lot about fishing and had a very relaxing day. Got two fish! Not a lot, but at least I know how to fish now...

Had a great time learning the basics of fishing with MFFA. Everything was kept easy and clear, with a little handbook provided to help you follow what was being taught and for future reference. With two instructors to a group of ten, someone was always on hand to explain and help. It was also nice to go out to a less-treaded part of Singapore.

Caught two breams for the day.. cool add to dinner, felt all Bear Grylls!

Thanks for the review Evon, you definitely have some of the same instinct as Bear Grylls by catching the most fish on that day! I bet your dinner tasted exceptionally better with your freshly caught fish. Hope to see you again soon!

It was an amazing day out at lazarus island to do fishing. For future guests, remember to bring adequate food and water as there is no food stalls on ths island. You should also bring extra plastic bags for trash as you need to bring back your trash to ths mainland for disposal.

I had aloysius as my instructor and he was wonderful. He helped everybody with their knots and was very knowledgeable; identifying fishes without even referring to anything. He was very friendly and approachable which made the course that much more enjoyable. Highly recommended to go for this course and learn about fishing from the academy.

It was a pleasant experience. I got to learn the basics of the reel and the rod and how to properly use them as a whole, learned how to tie the snell knot and the surgical knot to fix the hooks and weight together, and how to perform the overhead cast and swinging cast. The location that they brought us to was also quite good, apparently it was a relatively easy site to catch fishes, of course it still depends on your luck whether you got any catches. I caught 2 fishes, one of which was a small puffer fish! It was interesting to see how it puffed up and played dead until we threw it back into the water and it eventually de-puffed and quickly swam away when it felt that it was no longer in danger. Do note that all catches were released back into the sea immediately, so don't expect to have a seafood feast at the end of the course.

Thank you for such a detailed description of the course that you had gone through. We not only teach fishing skills and techniques, but we also educate anglers on fishing ethics and sustainable fishing so that our future generations can also enjoy this sport as we do. See you onboard for your next course!

Would be nice if fishing spots were in calmer waters. Fishing guides were quite helpful but should focus more on guiding and less on self-fishing.

Singapore waters are actually considered quite calm. Join us fishing more often and you will surely get used to it. We also recommend you to join our Novice Angler's Course which our instructors will teach you in more details on how to fish effectively at sea.

Went for the beginner course with my husband and parents (in their 60s). The academy gave clear instructions on meeting point and reminded us to bring sunblock, insect repellent & floor mat - yes you’ll need them for a happier experience! The real thrill comes from catching fish so if you’re wondering about the probability of catching something at Lazarus island, I would say there is a pretty high chance despite being a beginner. All of us were beginners - the no. of fish caught per person ranged from 2 to 7. I personally find the theory portion abit heavy, we spent 2.5hrs learning about fishing & tying hooks and knots (secretly wished the academy gave the option of ready made fishing line with hooks)..so the real fishing activity only starts after lunch. Overall, it was a good experience and the variety of fishes at Lazarus really amazes me.

Thank you for your excellent review. We are glad that your family enjoyed it. Part of the fun in fishing is to be able to outwit the fish with the rigs that you tie on your own. Next time when you join the Novice Angler's Course to fish on our yacht, it is a test of your knots' strength when you hook onto a big fish. You will feel a great sense of achievement when all your preparations work out to reward you with your prize catch.

Went for the 1-day Beginner Angler's Course where we learned about the fishing equipment and types, baits, how nature affects fishing, tying of different types of knots, fishing techniques etc.

The choice of going offshore to Lazarus Island was good in that it was quiet, serene, peaceful and beginners will not be troubled by other anglers or the general public, except for some mosquitoes.

The 2 instructors were very friendly and sociable and they had very good knowledge and skills on the subject.

Our group size was just right, not too big and not too few which gives us more concentration and dedicated time and no overcrowding.

I recommend the course for any aspiring beginner angler (that's what people who fish are called apparently). Will want to go for the next level course but first, I will have to practice on my knots and casting. ;)

Thank you for your detail and kind review. Lazarus Island is indeed a very nice place to learn fishing. You can also go there next time on your own to practise what you have learnt. Do remember to try tying the knots at home and you will be on your way to becoming a complete angler!
