I travel quite a bit for work, and I like to buy something for my family or my girlfriend when I do. The best thing about Mata Hari is the variety! I can visit in June and come back in September and it's 60% new and different things. Makes it easy for a guy to stay the "favorite uncle" or... More

Many trinkets and Julie tree from the east. Fascinating collection and stuff are highly helpful and can tell and excellent story of the providence of the items. I walked out with a lovely pair of Jade earrings very different to anything you can find on the high street.

The owner, Genevieve de Bernis, and her staff are well informed and helpful. The shop has an interesting and varied selection of collectibles and antiques. I visited the shop several times and made new discoveries on each visit. We bought several items and had them shipped home. The package arrived in perfect condition. A knowledgeable staff, the personal selection of... More

I didn't approach Mata-Hari for shopping purpose, but to get some advise and help concerning an antique bracelet I own of one of the major tribes, Akhu, Lisu and Lahu. I got a very fast and helpful response from them, which I really appreciate. I can absolutely recommend Mata-Hari. Thank you very much.

Hello! It was a pleasure dealing with you. Everybody at the shop was friendly and accommodating, every now and then I will go again to see if there is any new arrivals that may fit my flat. I will recommend your shop to my friends!

A lovely selection of collectables and antiques obviously by a knowledgeable proprietor. There are small descriptions either displayed or included with your purchase to describe the history and function of what you bought and where they come from. Staff are also very friendly and helpful. I only wish there would be a larger selection of things. Also, the size of... More

There is certainly something for everyone, in regard to price points. But Mata-Hari really does specialise in the higher end with great artefacts, they are more than happy to elaborate on details about strange and wonderful objects from another time. The service and ambiance are great without feeling one is getting the 'hard sell'. Added note: the are around Mata-Hari... More

I went to Mara-Hari and followed friend's recommendation: I have to say that I have not been disappointed. The shop is located in the trendy Tanjung Pagar / Club Street area and once we enter the door, we are in a museum. The shop is full of rare and authentic pieces of art. We bought a neckless and a souvenir... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown
Chinatown is a classic combination of colourful sights, enticing smells, and sometimes startling sounds. The precinct is unique, however, in its blending of religions and cultures. A Hindu temple, an Islamic mosque, and a Chinese Buddhist temple sit almost side by side. This sense of cultural harmony continues as you venture just outside of Chinatown to the nightlife areas of Club Street and Duxton Hill. There you’ll mingle with Singapore’s multicultural residents at the modern bars and restaurants dotting the bustling streets. An afternoon in and around Chinatown will leave you culturally enlightened, well fed, and loaded with souvenirs. In the evening, reward yourself with a well-deserved cocktail as the locals come out to play.
