Neighbourhood: Marina Bay
More of a mini city than a neighbourhood in the traditional sense, the iconic Marina Bay aims to dazzle and entertain visitors of all kinds. This is the Singapore found in glossy brochures, featuring a world-class hotel, casino, shops, restaurants, bars, and other attractions all geared towards pure entertainment. The SkyPark at Marina Bay Sands provides a stunning view of the city, a must-see photo opportunity for visitors and locals alike. The ArtScience Museum always has a top-quality exhibition, and Gardens by the Bay is a fascinating manifestation of the government’s vision of Singapore as a “city in a garden”. Enticing Marina Bay is well worth a visit.

What a great system the SMRT is. Efficient, clean, regular quick services, stations well laid out and signed, and well priced for visitors. Our only disappointment was the difficulty in obtaining our Explorer passes (or for that matter any form of ticket from a ticket office). It took over half an hour in the queue at Chinatown MRT ticket office to buy our passes and again when we tried to get our refunds. Most times we used Chinatown MRT, there were long queues at the ticket window. We found this in complete contrast to the otherwise superb efficiency of the SMRT.

When I came to the city on my jaunt to the Far East, I experienced this place and it was a revelation. The stations are so clean and well maintained. The trains run smoothly and efficiently. Everything is well laid out and signposted with escalators and lifts for those with walking difficulties. There are signposts all around warning travellers to respect others because offenders will be prosecuted and jailed and caned. On the trains all the announcements are bilingual. Best tube network I have ever been on. It's very cheap too. Travellers buy a card and add credits to it. The card will last up to five years so if you're a returning traveller you can still retain your credits. Londoners could learn a lot from this.

On previous visits to Singapore, I was wary of trying the MRTbeing a bit worried about the seeming confusion of people moving around, but this time decided to give it a try. My wife and I were not disappointed. Once familiar with the system we were able to get to most parts of the city with ease. The different lines are clearly marked and to assist visitors there is always staff on platforms to help out when necessary. Trains seem to come every few minutes so waiting time is minimal. The only comparable MRT I have experienced is in Taipei which is similarly efficient. In both places, passengers line up to get on and there is no jostling as everyone takes their turn.

Singapore MRT system is easy, clean, and favorable to disabled and seniors. There are multiple day passes, but we found a top-up card more affordable as we could top up if we needed, but for 5 days that we were there, did not have to. The fares are very reasonable. Most MRT stations seem to be attached to a large food court, mall or office complex, so there are many things to do and see even if you do nor want to exit into hot or rainy weather.

I am here not to rate how their MRT work, but to make a complaint / comment regard their country policy that not allow "anyone" to buy single journey ticket and force to buy a day pass or an electronic card to refill.
I was actually hopping can share the MRT experience with my family and young kids, but after queeing up for more than 30 minute and the airport counter and told that we cant get on the MRT without one of the ecard/daily pass .. I give up and just use grab...
and suprisingly, I found that the fare of my family buying the pass, does cover the charges of using private cab ( Grab app) to the Merlion and Garden of the bay with the ease of door to door.
Kudos to GRAB!

Easy, efficient and convenient. Swipe your credit card and you're in and out in a flash. Maps and stations are easy to figure out and make getting around the city extremely easy.

This is the best way of transport in Singapore. It can get you anywhere within the city. The ticket for one or two stations is almost 10/20 cents which is a very small amount.
It is super clean and comfortable

We spent four days in Singapore and the MRT was such an easy way to get around. It is extremely clean and felt very safe. You can use Google Maps and it will select routes for you or you can download the MRT map and it's so easy to find the closest station and find the connecting stations you need to get where you want to go. On a previous trip we purchased a tourist pass which worked well but you had to spend time finding the place to purchase the pass and there was a deposit for the pass. This time we just used our cell phone wallet with a credit card and tapped each time we entered and exited. We used apple wallet with a connected credit card. I also, toward the end, just used by apple watch apple wallet and tapped it to enter and exit.

Every station is spotlessly clean, every station has toilets and somewhere to get a drink, get a tourist travel card and a map and there’s not many places you can’t get to on the island by MRT and a walk, trains are clean, users are polite and most stations have staff to guide you along if you get stuck

Other than the ticket machines in the MRT stations where else can you top up EZ cards/tickets as my only issue what that they only accept small notes or coins and we struggled to top up two cards due to lack of small note when we first arrived? Thanks

We visited Singapore in January and used the MRT system. We had the same difficulty. At the larger MRT stations Doby Ghat & Orchard to mention a few there is also a kiosk which is manned. we purchased our tickets there. they were really helpful

Your booking will have port of boarding nentioned in it. It will either be at Tanah Merah Ferry terminal or harbour front. Harbour front boarding port is near harbour front mrt. If it is tanah merah then you need to take taxi.

You can buy the EZ link from any convenience store. It’s very easy to use.
If you’re staying for a few days, purchase the tourist SIM pack. You’ll get a SIM with 100GB data and an ez link card :)
