Having recently visited Singapore on the way to Australia we visited the Butterfly Garden on both stops. It’s located in Terminal 3 and is free but is airside so only those travelling can visit. A great way to spend 20/30 minutes. Saw lots of different butterflies and the garden appeared to be well looked after. Very pretty and worth a look to kill some time.

So amazing that Singapore has taken the time to put a park into an airport, and generally with such long waits, it was a welcomed distraction.

Who would imagine an airport having a Butterfly Garden!? I was blown away how beautiful this garden was. The best part is that it's free! Singapore really knows how to add a special touch to their airports.

This attraction is air-side, in Terminal 3 after you've gone through security. There is a great air-side secure monorail service that goes between terminal 2 and 3 so you can have a look here before you fly. It's behind the Sony shop. It is only open during daylight so check before you trek!

Well, it is unusual to have gardens at airports, let alone one that has butterflies all over. It is nice to visit. I was boarding on T1 - and you can move from T 2 and 3 after security thru a sky train, no issues then! (not sure about T4).

Looking to kill time in the airport this is the way to do it. There is so much to do in the airport for children and adults, the gardens were great and my son loved it. It was wonderful seeing all the different types of butterflies and it was easy to find too.

so many butterflies here you can see how they grow, they are well kept here but variety can definitely be increased.

Good for children and adults, the butterfly garden is a nice experience with these exotic insects flying around. Of course, you will want to take photos, but coming from the air conditioning of the airport into the hot and humid butterfly garden the lens of your camera will fog up. Be prepared to wait for several minutes for your camera to acclimatise.
The only downside is that there are lots of dead butterflies caught in the mesh on one wall. Seeing the corpses of previous inhabitants detracts a little from the experience.

Airports are never pleasant. Traveling can be a pain, but this is a very nice distraction from a delayed flight. Cannot wait to visit again

I will arrive at 8:30 am and I want to wait in the airport as our check in in the hotel at 2 pm , so can we wait in the airport and visit the butterfly garden and the other attractions in the airport, and that can be before immigration or after or both , and what about our bags ?!
Thanks in advance

The airside area is a gazetted secure zone, so you are not legally permitted to just hang around and use it as a rest point and are expected to move to immigration . Its permitted to grab something from a shop, have a bit of a look around but there are limits of reasonableness if you are not using the hotel rooms or other paid facilities. Police do do sweeps (though they do this most at night as the main purpose is stop people using the airside area as a free hotel) and will remove people without onward boarding passes [I've seen them doing it].
There comes a point where the carousel with bags is moved to the next flight and then your bags go to lost and found and you have to claim them. This is no longer a nice secure room at the edge of the baggage hall but is now a relatively open area by the carousels. Staff do still watch them and you have to identify the bags to retrieve them as they are cabled down.
Once past immigration, you can do what you like - the Jewel particularly is set up just for this.
That said, any decent hotel will have a luggage room and let you leave bags there and get outside for the day. Better ones will have shower access so you can freshen up and change before going out, or the airport has such facilities for a fee. So that is an alternative and at the right time your room might be ready (though at the 9:30-10am-ish we are talking that obviously has no guarantee in a popular spot.

It is free to access before immigration. With regards to the baggage, it may be left at the ‘Left Baggage’ area. Maybe can check with the staff withh regards to it.

If my flight is departing from T1, is it still possible to visit the Butterfly Garden in T3?
wombatdavid
Hobart, Australia2,007 contributions
Yes - if you have time, you can go between the terminals easily using foot/train.
Did it take long to get from T1 to T3? We have almost 6 hour layover, so plenty of time but would also like to know if it's complex getting over to T3?

The interconnecting tram comes every 5 minutes or so and it only takes a couple of minutes between terminals. So quick and efficient. We got home to Australia and realised that T1 I think has a huge slide 😩 so upset we missed that one lol would definitely have taken the kids on that 🤣

I wanted to know if it's possible to roam around the airport to see the beautiful gardens specially butterfly garden. Can someone guide me how to go about it, like should I collect baggage, do immigration and than can I watch them??

the airport is so user friendly. The Butterfly farm is clearly signed. Google it and you will see the opening times. It is free, not very big but worth seeing.

You'll want to collect your checked in baggage before going to all these attractions. All are at the passenger transit area, so save your immigration formalities for last. Ask any airport staff for directions. They're very helpful. Alternatively you can still visit some of these sights upon leaving Singapore. Just get to the airport early.

Hi there, enjoy your time at Changi, one of the worlds great airports. Yes, after check in to see the attractions, each terminal has a information booth to find out what is on for that terminal. Plus there is a train that will take you between the terminals, so make sure you try to catch them all if you have the time.

Not sure but presume because it's in the departure hall that it's open all the time.
