If early in the morning (around 7 am) in terminal 3, as we were, there are only a few butterflies to see because they mostly only come out in the daytime not at night. The signs were very clear that would be the case so we were not disappointed and we got to experience a pretty garden with multiple levels and a waterfall for free with little effort. It was dark when we started then became lighter so we could see more. I thought it was worthwhile to visit even without the butterflies as if you're stuck at an airport what else are you going to do?

If you are at the airport and waiting for your flight, it might be a place to spend some time but not really sure it is worth the effort. We’re not too many butterflies that I saw.

A night thing to do is visit the butterfly garden at Changi airport terminal 3 . The garden is small but unique in a busy airport terminal. Access for wheelchairs/ pushchairs is on ground floor. It’s free and a great way to spend time enjoying g the beauty of nature,
While in such a busy place.

Located over two floors at Changi Airport is this enclosed butterfly sanctuary. It is a beautiful and tranquil spot with tropical gardens and beautiful butterflies.

This is such a lovely place and great to visit when you are in Changai Airport. We arrived into the airport very late at night but it was still open to the people in the transit area.
Its such a serene place amidst all the hustle and bustle of one of the worlds biggest and busiest airports. It was nice to be able to chill for a few minutes in this place.
As it was night, the butterflies were asleep and not active. You could see them in the plants.
When we came back through, it was in the daytime and there was lots of butterflies flitting about.
Its nice to visit if you have time when transiting through the airport.

Tranquil and beautiful, the Butterfly Garden was just the place to spend a little time being in the wonders of nature.
I visited around mid-morning where there were many butterflies flitting around and gathered at the fruit and flower feeding stations. I saw at least four different sorts of butterfly, and was even lucky enough to have one alight on my hand for a rest.
Butterflies are day creatures so don’t expect to see anything at night. The enclosure is exposed to the outside world so don’t expect air conditioned comfort, and as you are at an airport you can hear the planes etc.
I will definitely visit again if time allows 🦋😊💖

A nice change to be in nature with these beautiful creatures. There are varieties and multiply colors and they fly amongst the visitors.

The butterfly garden is something a bit different in the airport, a change from all the shops etc. A notice on entry asked that numbers be kept below 25, but there was not really any way of doing this, you could not see how many people were already in. To limit numbers there would need to be a member of staff, however I saw people entering through the exit, so it would really be unworkable. It was nice to be in a green, humid area. There were quite a few butterflies, plus a cabinet where pupae were hatching. The children I saw were enjoying seeing the butterflies.

A sanctuary amidst the chaos and exhaustion of travelling.
We had a stopover at Singapore airport for a few hours and it was lovely to have the time to wander around the Butterfly Garden. It’s smaller than I expected from the pictures and the top level is minimal but it was a lovely space either way. There were tonnes of butterflies, which was relaxing and I can imagine it being a calming and interactive place for people, especially with children.

I will arrive at 8:30 am and I want to wait in the airport as our check in in the hotel at 2 pm , so can we wait in the airport and visit the butterfly garden and the other attractions in the airport, and that can be before immigration or after or both , and what about our bags ?!
Thanks in advance

The airside area is a gazetted secure zone, so you are not legally permitted to just hang around and use it as a rest point and are expected to move to immigration . Its permitted to grab something from a shop, have a bit of a look around but there are limits of reasonableness if you are not using the hotel rooms or other paid facilities. Police do do sweeps (though they do this most at night as the main purpose is stop people using the airside area as a free hotel) and will remove people without onward boarding passes [I've seen them doing it].
There comes a point where the carousel with bags is moved to the next flight and then your bags go to lost and found and you have to claim them. This is no longer a nice secure room at the edge of the baggage hall but is now a relatively open area by the carousels. Staff do still watch them and you have to identify the bags to retrieve them as they are cabled down.
Once past immigration, you can do what you like - the Jewel particularly is set up just for this.
That said, any decent hotel will have a luggage room and let you leave bags there and get outside for the day. Better ones will have shower access so you can freshen up and change before going out, or the airport has such facilities for a fee. So that is an alternative and at the right time your room might be ready (though at the 9:30-10am-ish we are talking that obviously has no guarantee in a popular spot.

It is free to access before immigration. With regards to the baggage, it may be left at the ‘Left Baggage’ area. Maybe can check with the staff withh regards to it.

If my flight is departing from T1, is it still possible to visit the Butterfly Garden in T3?

Yes - if you have time, you can go between the terminals easily using foot/train.
Did it take long to get from T1 to T3? We have almost 6 hour layover, so plenty of time but would also like to know if it's complex getting over to T3?

The interconnecting tram comes every 5 minutes or so and it only takes a couple of minutes between terminals. So quick and efficient. We got home to Australia and realised that T1 I think has a huge slide 😩 so upset we missed that one lol would definitely have taken the kids on that 🤣

the airport is so user friendly. The Butterfly farm is clearly signed. Google it and you will see the opening times. It is free, not very big but worth seeing.

You'll want to collect your checked in baggage before going to all these attractions. All are at the passenger transit area, so save your immigration formalities for last. Ask any airport staff for directions. They're very helpful. Alternatively you can still visit some of these sights upon leaving Singapore. Just get to the airport early.

Hi there, enjoy your time at Changi, one of the worlds great airports. Yes, after check in to see the attractions, each terminal has a information booth to find out what is on for that terminal. Plus there is a train that will take you between the terminals, so make sure you try to catch them all if you have the time.
