About
Staying in Singapore over the last two weekends of August? You'll be in for a visual treat at the Singapore Night Festival. What's there to do in darkness? Plenty, as an extravaganza of performances and artworks that make use of light are dispersed in Singapore's premier art precinct, Bra Basah-Bugis. Most museums in the neighbourhood are also open for free until late at night, hosting local and overseas talents. Do not miss the display show that is screened on the facade of the National Museum – it's usually playful and thought-provoking, plus the fact that it's projected onto an iconic national monument is incredibly impressive!

We lived in Singapore many years and travel back there from time to time. Singapore is a very special place on earth! Its festivals are magical! Yes, the country is crowded, so know that in advance. However, there are so many venues for the night lights festival and you can see the lights from across the streets as well. Armenian Street was wonderful with various food kiosks. Chijmes was our favorite and despite a wedding reception taking place, there was room to walk around and take photos. It was a highlight of the week!

Lots and lots of amazing displays. I think you actually need to go more than once. We went to the Whispers exhibition in the National Gallery which was super amazing.

This is the first time we participate in the Night Festival, it was very crowded we were following a queue most of the way. We did not get to stay for long, and decided to leave after we walked to the main lighting area and saw the huge group jammed in the area. We believe the organisation can arrange better, and we had a difficult time getting the map of the event.
Also at Cathedral of the good shepherd church, the angels display was magical, however they were giving our candles for guests to place on the ground to form a display that seems dangerous, as the place was already crowded we don't believe it was well though through for putting candles on the floor.

Short and sweet, this is about an 8 minute ongoing event requiring no planning or tickets and, because it continues for several days on rotation all evening, is never crowded. A quite engrossing display projected onto the walls of the building tells a story about Singapore's coming into being.

I had the opportunity to take a walk for half an hour to just check out some highlights of the Singapore Night Festival which is held during the period 17-25August.

This is the 11th edition of the annual festival which transforms the night scene of Bras Basah & Bugis precinct. After dusk, various art and light installations were put up for this festival.

Get a paper fan, which include the map of the various installations from the volunteers who wear orange t-shirt nearby the installation.

There are altogether 5 zones and performances will be available from the 23rd to the 25th of August.

A good starting point would be at Raffles City Shopping Centre. Nearest MRT is City Hall station. Then you could walk along North Bridge Road passing by Chijmes, and then onto Bras Basah Road with the SAM (Singapore Art Museum), SMU Campus , and then turn into Bencoolen Street for the NAFA Campus I, and once at Middle Road, turn right towards Waterloo St and at the junction of Queen Street, you will come by the Singapore Design Centre.

However, you could also start at Dhoby Ghaut MRT, and check out the Cathay Green installation. Walk towards National Museum and cross over to SMU - with the stage performances starting only on 23rd Aug.

Don't miss out these main attractions
Raffles City - A Thousand Skies
Singapore Art Museum - Light Show
Outside Cathay building - Leap of Faith
Dhoby Ghaut Green - Orbit by LiteWerkz
Singapore Design Centre - World of Wearable Art
National Museum - Aquatic Dream

The below is a short description of the installation at Dhoby Ghaut Green from the website - nightfestival dot sg.
Orbit by Litewerkz
Step into Orbit for an immersive experience inspired by the solar system and the vast, unexplored space beyond. Watch as the orbiting planets of the installation surround you and lift you from reality.
3M retroreflective materials — the focus of Orbit — are found on the surface of these planets. By manipulating light, this installation challenges perceptions and interactions from each viewer.
LiteWerkz presents Orbit in collaboration with global science company 3M.

If you are now in Singapore, do check out the Night Festival. Don't forget about the performances coming up on the 23rd August. If you are not in Singapore, join us next year as the event is always held over two weekends in August. Enjoy.

Yup. Was at the 1st Night Festival and it looked really great.
I can look forward to this event every year. The lights light up the night sky and the performances all make the museum area modern and beautiful.
Kudos to the organisers and all the audience who stay up late to witness this sight.
