We spent four days in the Atacama desert, at the Tierra Atacama and the excursions to be made from here or from the little city of San Pedro de Atacama are many and they are amazing: the Moon Valley, the Altiplanic Lagoons, the Salar de Atacama, the Cornisas and Valle de Marte, the Mchuca-Rio Grande, Laguna Chaya and so many... All excursions offered by all inclusive hotels are unique and excellent. Found guides to be very informative and knowledge. Enjoyed special touches like wine and appetizers at sunset.

This is a place of savage natural beauty. A place to be enjoyed but respected. There is one little village (well a small row of shops) where you can eat. Not sure what it was called. But it also acts as a base camps for tours. The food was typical south American fayre. Lots of rice and meat. Basic but... More

Make sure you bring good walking shoes and warm cloth if you travel in March because at night can get cold. Also bring your good sunglasses the sun is very sharp! Good to spend 3 days and make guided trips.

We did a road trip and drove from Valparaiso to St Pedro in the Atacama Desrt, made some mistakes in the planning for the drive and didn't take in to account where we should do stop overs, All was good at the start, we stayed in Serena for two nights a lovely seaside town Then drove for 8 hours and... We flew to Calama and bused to San Pedro de Atacama. Remote town, little dot of green in the desert, like walking into a Western, but full of good restaurants and interesting places to stay. Some restaurants had open fires at night which was lovely. Quite a few tour companies to take you to attractions-El Valle de la Luna; Miscanti... More

We just had to experience the "driest place in the world" to find out how it really was. Weather was cold in the nights and hot in the days. The dryness gets to you pretty soon if you don't do a good job of moisturizing with creams and lip balms. We took several trips out to see salt flats, geysers... More

It is hard to decribe the Atacama desert . Be ready for a mix of landscapes, temperatures , experiences. It has surpassed my expectations and it is has become one of my fav destinations . Amazing view, great people and an energy hard to describe. Absolutely amazing!

A testament to the people who survive in this harsh landscape. Beauty abounds but so does poverty . You need at least 3 days. Altitude sickness can be a problem so try to acclimatise before you go. We travelled with Rueta Verde and our guides Abel and Favio were excellent as were the hotels we stayed in.

This is a very unique place I think I have ever visited - after 60 countries and I still think it is worth exploring, especially staying at one of the Explora Hotels - I wish I would stay for more nights, as you find every day is fulfilled by great exertions - cannot have enough of it...and make many great...
