I climbed with a tour operator in Pucon-the group was 11 people. The climb is relatively straight forward. The first part is scoria rock and the rest is snow. I live at sea level so the last 100m are a bit of a slog due to altitude. However i reached the peak without trouble. Fortunately the day was sunny and... More

The views were nice, the forest quiet and after about an hour or so of hiking, we came to a nice bench where our guide had snacks, water and wine for us. The forest is beautiful. If I were younger, i would go all the way to the top, for us a hike along the base was fine.

I recommend Aguaventuras. Read my review of their company for breakdown on equipment, guides etc. This Volcano was epic. Tough climb up. I'm fit but it was tough. Intense. We started from the bottom of "base camp" at 1,400Meters. 1 Hour walk to the top of the gondola at 1,800Meters. Then two more stints of 1 Hour 10 Minutes and... More

Waking up and see the view of the majestic Villarica volcan is priceless. Climbing it up is even better, and experience one should not miss.

Everyone talks about the hike to the top, yet with 3 kids on this vacation, it wasn't going to happen. Searched online for other hikes and found the excellent "Mirador Los Crateres" hike. Drove up past the Volcanic Caves (left at the fork, just past the entrance), parking a quarter-mile from the trailhead on the side of the road due... More

We went on a day that was VERY windy and made the hike intense. But we had a great tour company and guides ( Politur) which made all the difference. Make sure to ask about the weather, because if it really windy it will make the hike very physically and mentally challenging. This was a bucket list for me and... More

We climbed with Antu who I would highly recommend. We got picked up at 6.30am to go and collect the equipment and started walking about 7.30-8am. We took the chair lift up at the beginning, it saves 400m uphill, I'm glad we did that to save energy. We then climbed the next 1000 m to the summit. It took a... More

I have climbed this volcano two times, and I will probably keep coming back. All you need to know is that it is worth it, and that finding a good company is key. I personally recommend Antu Pucon to everyone I meet.

Climbing the most active volcano in Chile, seeing the awesome views and in the top seeing the lava, it's an amazing experience. Plus, riding back is tremendous fun, sliding in the snow all way down! A must if you are in Pucón! I have been there with Patagonia Experience and they were awesome!
