Seeing this monument surviving mid the realities of 1st century Valparaiso which seems not to escape artistry on every blank surface - much of it excellent - reminds us of centuries past. It is a remarkable monument to past glory.

Park below the plaza and use it as a jump off point to visit the old town. The plaza itself has shops, banks and other commercial businesses. But, the real attraction is on the hillsides surrounding the plaza.

Apart from the imposing statue, this central square has some impressive buildings around its sides which have played key roles in the interesting history of Valparaíso - well worth a visit when you’re in town.

Nice to wander through the streets to the plaza and admire some of the larger buildings surrounding it.

Nice place to meet for a tour. Steps from a few coffee shops. Is relatively centrally located -- close to Cerro Alegre
