A great way to see Valparaiso's port from above and a lovely promenade at the top. Almost empty when we visited

Take the ride. It's cheap with some spectacular views of the port. Watch the container ships in action. Great shopping at the top.

This Ascensor is a bit out of the way but offers a great view and a nice shopping area at the top. The carriage appears to be an original too.

Arguably the best funicular of Valparaiso. Rather old and "shabby" that gives an additional charm. And the view from the top is stunning. The Chilean Navy museum is nearby.

Probably the most popular ascencor in Valpo, all the tour groups get dropped here, so there are often long lines to ride up. Good view of the port ops, and paseo 21 de mayo at the top. With a little walk other funiculars offer great...More

Old and run down, this is still a must do attraction if you’re going to visit Valparaiso. Nice rise to the top which then gives good views of the city. Recommend doing this first the start exploring the streets from here!

The Ascensor (funicular) Artillería is a must. It will enable you to have a general view of the port of Valparaíso and also have a walk around the streets of the upper hills of the city.

We took most ascensores in Valparaíso (some were shut for repairs). They are all worth it, both for the experience and for the view.

I went on this elevator today! It was fun and also daring. The squeaks and movement on the little wooden car are fun! almost like a ride!

We rode the Ascensor Artilleria while visiting the harbour in Valparaiso. It was amazing and the view was spectacular. At $600.00 Chilean Pesos for a return trip, it’s also a very affordable attraction which takes you up the hill to the Maritime Museum and a...More

Mi relato en ingles: Unfortunally, my experience in Valparaiso was very bad. My brother is living in Santiago de Chile and we decided to go to Valparaiso by ourselves. We took the Ascensor Artillería at 10:30 a.m. From there we went to the Naval and maritime museum. Our mistake was decided to go by walk to the others turistic places. so we started to walk and then after 15-20 minutes we were robbed violently. 2 men started to run in our direction, the biggest who was also the leader tried to take my bag and snatch my bag. I was stronger than him. So He threw me on the floor, I was immobilized with a foot and he pulled out a switchblade knife. I saw the knife close to my belly and I was ready to receive the knife. I closed my eyes and I got peed on. My brother was with the other guy who was short and thin and asked for the money/la Plata to a meter away. My brother gave the wallet with 200.000 chilean pesos and all documents and credit card. He was able to hide the I-phone 6 (the price is around 800 Eur). he didn´t tried to help me. My brother told me to stop to tighten the purse/the bag. I did it and the man took my bag which contain the samsung S3, sony zt3 waterproof, a small canon camera (value around 60 Eur) and 110.000 chilean pesos. We were on a Cerro/Hill very close to a square with a checkpoint police (carabinieros). we made the complaint of theft which took a lot of time. The police was very very lazy. Then we went to the police office by car to finish to declair. We lost all the money and we asked to the police some money to return to santiago. They gave the money and we made the transfer the following day. The police told us that Valpairaiso is getting the most dangerous city of Chile. The tourists has to go there with a Tour or if they walk alone, the have to go only in the most touristic places. Sometimes the Lanzas/thieves start to follow the tourist and await the opportunity to rob. It a pity that this beautiful city is so unsafe. The police told us that some people who comes to Valparaiso to give the recognition as a UNESCO heritage of humanity were also robbed. Be careful.

Que terrible! Lo siento. Si, hay ladrones en el puerto, y en enero y febrero hay muchos profesionales. ¿La ciudad más peligrosa en el país? No, pero, una con un flujo de turistas.
