You can have a fun ride up the hill, and from the summit... just enjoy a great view over the different tasks performed in Chile's busiest port.

This elevator takes you up the Artillary hill and Paseo 21 de mayo from where you have a fantastic view over the habour and the city. Go there in the evening as well.

It's a treat to ride one if the many ascensores in Valparaiso including this one. You can reach el 21 de mayo and get a great view of the pier and watch the cranes loading the sea containers onto the tractor trailers.

Part of a day trip while the cruise ship was in port. Visited on the advice of the port Tourist Information girl. Got the local trolley bus along through town into the Concepcion area on the headland. Great view of the cruise ship from the top. Lots of small cafes and restaurants at the top. Well worth a visit.

Another of the nice Ascensors, on the Northern edge of town. Not much at the top apart from nice views of the port, the Maritime Museum and a few nice local restaurants and cafes

Ascensor Artillery takes you to a great view of the city and harbor. Beautiful Victorian homes up top.

Great old ascensor to take you to the top of the hill. Slow, rickety ride but worth it since it costs almost nothing to ride. Once at the top, the views are amazing and there are a few tourist shops and a little market shop where you can buy snacks and drinks. If you'd rather not ride the ascensor, you... More

This is not that much different than the other ascensors in Valparaiso. They are all ancient and mechanically basic. Once you arrive at the top, there are great vistas of the port and a craft market selling tourist stuff. When you descend and walk back to town, stick to the street nearest the harbor. We were two or three blocks... More

One of the best 'ascensores' in the city and from the top you can get a great view of it with the city behind.

600 CLP round trip (0.5 USD). View is okay, and pretty much the same you'll get once you are up there. Is just an elevator...

Mi relato en ingles: Unfortunally, my experience in Valparaiso was very bad. My brother is living in Santiago de Chile and we decided to go to Valparaiso by ourselves. We took the Ascensor Artillería at 10:30 a.m. From there we went to the Naval and maritime museum.

Our mistake was decided to go by walk to the others turistic places.

so we started to walk and then after 15-20 minutes we were robbed violently.

2 men started to run in our direction, the biggest who was also the leader tried to take my bag and snatch my bag. I was stronger than him. So He threw me on the floor, I was immobilized with a foot and he pulled out a switchblade knife. I saw the knife close to my belly and I was ready to receive the knife. I closed my eyes and I got peed on. My brother was with the other guy who was short and thin and asked for the money/la Plata to a meter away. My brother gave the wallet with 200.000 chilean pesos and all documents and credit card. He was able to hide the I-phone 6 (the price is around 800 Eur). he didn´t tried to help me. My brother told me to stop to tighten the purse/the bag. I did it and the man took my bag which contain the samsung S3, sony zt3 waterproof, a small canon camera (value around 60 Eur) and 110.000 chilean pesos. We were on a Cerro/Hill very close to a square with a checkpoint police (carabinieros). we made the complaint of theft which took a lot of time. The police was very very lazy. Then we went to the police office by car to finish to declair. We lost all the money and we asked to the police some money to return to santiago. They gave the money and we made the transfer the following day. The police told us that Valpairaiso is getting the most dangerous city of Chile. The tourists has to go there with a Tour or if they walk alone, the have to go only in the most touristic places. Sometimes the Lanzas/thieves start to follow the tourist and await the opportunity to rob. It a pity that this beautiful city is so unsafe. The police told us that some people who comes to Valparaiso to give the recognition as a UNESCO heritage of humanity were also robbed. Be careful.
