About
"There’s a reason the South American Andes is spoken about with awe, and the cone of Ecuador’s Cotopaxi volcano is the icing on this mountainous hunk of cake. Scraping the sky at more than 5800 metres above sea level, the stratovolcano is currently snoozing after chucking a tantrum in late 2015, when it spat smoke and ash into the air. Rug up for altitude and thunder down its foothills on a 30-kilometre cycling trip with Biking Dutchman Tours. A back-up vehicle will carry you up high, where you’ll swing onto the saddle of a 21-speed mountain bike and head off-road, winding through ancient lava fields and past wild horses grazing in grassy plains studded with wildflowers. Stop at Incan ruins, enjoy a homemade picnic lunch, and spot the snowy giant reflected on the surface of Limpiopungo Lake... " GET LOST MAGAZINE

This is the very best bicycling tour I've ever taken. We took a 2-day Cotopaxi/Chimborazo trip. The locations were stunning. The opportunity to get high up on Cotopaxi and Chimborazo volcanoes to observe the glaciers was excellent in itself, but then the cycling down each mountain was just amazing, traveling from the treeless paramo to the forest and farms below. Descending from 5000 meters to 2800 meters on a mountain bike is exhilarating and fun. We had a chance to visit an Inca archeological site along the way, too. Our guide, Jorge, was excellent, and our driver Patto, too! Highly recommend this tour to anyone who loves nature, mountain biking, mountain scenery and breathtaking descents on paths and roads.

Biking Dutchman was so accommodating to our last minute request for a day tour. We chose Cotopaxi and it was incredible! Really easy to book and prompt responses to all our questions. Jorge was our guide who was friendly, experienced and very patient. The tour itself blew our minds- such incredible views of stunning mountain scenery and wildlife. Jorge was really knowledgeable about the history, mountains and wildlife. Bikes were good quality and safety gear provided. We had padded shorts which were really useful on bumpy terrain. The biking is quite challenging at times- steep down hills and some incline which is much harder at altitude so you want to be confident on a bike with a moderate fitness level, saying that Jorge was really patient and we could stop whenever we wanted. It was also reassuring to have the car following us.
All in all a fantastic day riding 22km around Cotopaxi (slightly shorter than what the tour says it will be but this could have been because I struggled in the altitude). Highly recommend these tours, excellent customer service and really responsive to our needs.

A great trip! Eric was very accommodating and helpful not only with our cycling trip but also with recommendations for restaurants, and other activities in Quito. The trip itself was amazing and a great way to see Cotopaxi. Highly recommend the Biking Dutchman.

This was my second time biking down Cotapaxi with Biking Dutchman and it was fabulous! We enjoyed sweeping long range views, a visit to Incan ruins, custom pick up at our hotel, and the security of Patricio following us in the truck for anyone who needed a break. Many thanks to Jorge, Patricio and Mateo!

Fantastic day with great people. The bike were top notch. 26 miles mainly downhill.

The English spoken was excellent. The sites we visited were varied. From the top of the mountain down through the rainforest seeing the amazing fauna and wildlife. At the end we stopped at a village cafe and were introduced to Ecuadorian cuisine which was fantastic.

Couldn't have asked for better. They definitely raised the bar on tour agencies for the future of my travels. The guide was very supportive in instructing us on how to ride the bikes, and handle the curves in the road. The food was incredible! The tour included water, tea, the most amazing veggie sandwiches and delicious homemade brownies at the end. I loved the view of the mountain, the pace of the tour, seeing the lagoon. Great experience for beginners!

We went on a 4-days tour and absolutely loved every second of it! The team was able to put up a trip for us in less than 48hrs and delivered the best value for money we could hope for. Highly recommend. The biking level is accessible and is not the only activity of the trip. There is also a lot of different cultural activities and quite some shuttling time if you're going to the Amazonas as well :) Thank you to all the team!
