About
Resembling a type of small bread (panecillo), this hill makes an excellent observation point over Quito and features La Virgen del Panecillo, a majestic sculpture that can be seen from any location in the city.

High atop this hill you’ll have panoramic views of Quito for as far as the eye can see. Stop this hill is the statue of the Virgin Mary. There are also a number of food stalls and toilets. We came late in the afternoon and...More

Although there are several great views of Quito, this is one of the best. You can see both north and south, getting a feel for how many people really live in Quito. The monument itself is beautiful and worth the small admission price. Interesting information...More

The statue is located on ground where the ancients used to worship the sun. The current statue is a version of the madonna stepping on a snake. You get a commanding view of Quito and the surrounding mountains. Take the Quito bus tour to get...More

We stopped here during our Quito city tour. It is worth going up the hill to see this so you can see the expansive views of Quito, and see the unusual Virgin statue up close. There is a restaurant there (reviewed separately) Pim’s Panecillo which...More

Incredible view over Quito!! We took a taxi from calle la Ronda, as it's quite the hike up and we were told to be careful, it was less than 2$. There were a lot of small stands on top as well, offering drinks and food.

This monument doesn’t look so big from down in the old town but is extremely impressive up close. We went up by taxi and certainly didn’t regret that choice as it would have taken us a very long time to walk up. Lots of hustle...More

We - two males - walked up (and down) mid-day and experienced no issues. In fact, we saw more Ecuadorian police, than residents of the neighbourhood on the climb up. In addition, the day prior an officer had confirmed to us that it is safe...More

This statue appears to watch over the city, visible both day and night. The bus or taxi journey up is somewhat convoluted, with twisting roads climbing the dome shaped mountain to the top. The alternative route by foot would no doubt prove exhausting. You can...More

We followed the stairs up from Old Town and had great views of the city. Definitely an interesting statue- The Virgin Mary waving with one hand, and using her other hand to hold on to a chained dragon that is pinned under her foot. Although...More

Definitely not 24 hrs. To be honest the view from the base of the statue is worthwhile.
