This one of the nicer plazas in Quito...especially so since this is a city that does not have many of them. It contains a dramatic backdrop of rising hills along with the imposing facade of the eponymous cathedral. It's located somewhat just beyond the core perimeter of the old town (Centro Histórico) and, for this reason, is perhaps better left... More

There was construction, so we didn't get the full effect. Was nice to see a big square, as in other Latin American countries, as it gives you a day in the life. People feeding pigeons, selling tripe, shining shoes... and people watching. A good entrance to the church and monetary.

We enjoyed our time visiting this busy bustling place! Lots of sights to see, and we felt like we were "soaking up the local color" or in other words, seeing the "real" Quito. All of the locals were friendly and polite!

Very nice plaza, with a church with the same name. Unfortunatelly subway (metro) line is under construction, but not a big issue. There a big artisian shop in the end of the plaza, under the enntrance of the church. Must see place.

At present only half the plaza is open the rest is a building site for the metro. Plaza is surrounded on three sides by shops selling lots of different things including a very good one selling Panama Hats. It is great just to take a bit of time & watch the hustle & bustle of this plaza especially in front... More

Due to the new metro construction, half the square is currently blocked by construction. It is still nice but spend more time inside the San Francisco church which is beautiful.

Surrounding the plaza are shops to buy local crafts and textiles. Also The San Francisco Church. A good view of the surrounding hills.

One of the best ways of seeing any area is by walking and exploring. San Francisco Plaza in Quito, Ecuador is no exception. It is the only way, in my opinion, to see all the wonders, hidden treats and experience the culture, the people, the architecture and food that is Ecuador. Surrounding the Plaza are beautiful churches, the home of... More

The Monastery of San Francisco and adjacent Government Palace forms the traditional and a classic town square.Note the fantastic art-of-ironwork all-over the surrounding area.
