It was worth walking several blocks uphill to reach this amazing basilica, even though we were out of breath when we got there. The church itself is amazingly beautiful. The design of the church has amazing detail, but my favorite detail was that the gargoyles common in gothic churches were replaced with sculptures of animals found in the Galapagos. The... More

This is a ginormous basilica and you should visit it if you are in Quito. You'll be impressed at its grandeur. It's near old town so easy to visit at the same time

This is a great morning activity, that very inexpensive, unsupervised, all with great views of Quito. There is also nice shop to find beer and ice cream. Everything you need; Beer, ice cream and God.

An amazing church in excellent repair. We walked all around the building and were taken with the great stonework as well as the bronze doors. We didn't have time to view the interior and there was an additional charge for this part of the church.

Unfortunately we were not able to enter the Basilikaen due to limited opening hours. It is a great piece of art anyhow, and it´s great to walk around watching it. I do more so recommend to get on top on any of the hotels down in the old town, as the view of the Basilikaen is great from distance too,... More

The basilica is a contemporary church with an interesting but not particularly enthralling interior. The real treat is the gargoyles on the outside which are all native animals to Ecuador (armadillos, porcupines, frigate birds, Galapagos hawks, etc.). The real heart stopper is the trip to the highest viewing tower in the basilica, which involving crossing a board walk over the... More

Great views without going far from downtown. Worth a visit, very reasonably priced. There are elevators in case you want to take it easy. We went all the way up every option and were very happy about the whole experience.

Walked from my hotel in Old Quito, took about 20 minutes, entered off side street. The admission is $2 for the basilica and another $2 to climb to the top of the towers. You cannot be afraid of heights or narrow ladders if you want to make it to the very top. They have elevators for the clock towers. You... More

I did not go into the church itself, but went up the towers. The cost was $1 for citizens and $2 for foreigners, and it was definitely worth it. Typically I am against paying for entering a church, but I made an exception for this. The climb is a little strenuous, but well worth it. We made it up to... More
