As interesting as Machu Picchu. Soon the new funiculars will work and save as 90 minutes drive. You have to walk 2.5 kms or ride a horse. It is a 2.5 hour drive from Chachapoyas city. Really interesting to learn about the Chachapoyas culture. Worth the trip. Fly from Lima to Jaen city and drive 2.5 hrs to the city.... More

A marvelous place to visit with a guide to explain both the ancient and recent history of the site. It has an aura that will linger long after you have departed. Building started in ?800 AD and continued until 1600 taking in Chachapoyas culture, Inca rule and Conquista domination. Until the Inca, there wasn't a built straight line to be... More

The fortified city of Kuelap, built by the Chachapoya civilisation in today's region Amazonas in northern Peru is a great place to visit. Currently there are not many tourists and you might have the impression to be lost in time. Take a local guide that will explain you the fascinating history. In October there should open the new cablecar that... More

Kuelap is amazing, really worth the trip. The only issue, if you don't want to go with a tour, is that buses schedule can be quite tricky in the area. We decided to rent a motorbike in Chachapoyas for a 5 day-trip to Leymebamba - Revash - Kuelap - Valle Belén. I you are interested, you can contact Dino: +51... More

People say is the machine pic hi or the north and it kind of is but not in the way you think it is. For me machine pitchy is more beautiful, nevertheless, this coul de more impresive in other ways. First it's not fully unearthed, second it's older and maybe bigger( the walls are more than 69 feets tall), third... More

I had, frankly, never heard of Kuelap before -- and that's probably a good thing. Unlike Machu Picchu, Kuelap is not yet overrun by selfie-obsessed tourists. This fortified city is fascinating: its layout, colors, and sheer size are different from anything else I've seen in South America. A few words about getting there: I am not sure what exactly previous... More

I had no idea what to expect but was interested to see somewhere else in peru other than macchu pichu. Kuelap is in a remote area and requires a good driver to get you there. The drive is incredibly scenic and is part of the attraction but it is on a dirt road with hairpin bends so could be quite... More

Chachapoyas and Kuelap were not even on my radar when I started researching which parts of Peru I wanted to visit on my 6 month journey through the continent. Kuelap came highly recommended by a German couple in Kartagena. Chachapoyas and Kuelap should be on any person's travel itinerary if you have time to spare, because it is a long... More

Awesome! Bus station is next to the ticket sale, 2.5kms walking to the Complex, easy and safe walking. Kuelap is very nice and big, high and looks strong with amazing views, next to the cliff in the top of the mountain.

Thank René N
