Guided tours are the best way to see this remote and friendly island where the cows and sheep seem to outnumber people. Two mountain peaks, known as Father Earth and Mother Earth, make for superb hiking.

The 2 days 1 night homestay tour did not live up to expectations unfortunately. We were told we would have an English speaking guide and though she did talk English it seemed like a quick, watered down version of what she was saying firstly in Spanish. We were paired with a local family upon our arrival to Amantani. Staying with... More

I visited Amantani as part of a 2-day trip to the islands of Lake Titicaca and stayed in a homestay, which was a fantastic experience. The island is very unspoilt and has no street lights etc, so bring a torch if you come and stay overnight. Staying in the homestay was far more of an experience than staying in a... More

A lovely island where you can "home stay" for a night. But beware, its a half hour steep walk from the port to the houses and another half hour to your home stay. The walk to the top of the island is equally challenging, as is getting around the island. The tour company DO NOT warn you of this in... More

We booked a homestay on Amantani through All Ways Travel, a local tour company in Puno. We traveled with Hebon, a local from Amantani, through Uros to the island. This was a 4.5 hour boat ride including the visit to the Uros floating islands. We were welcomed on the island with a flower necklaces and taken to the house where... More

Amantani was beuatiful. The people were hospitable and the food was delicious. If you're a vegetarian, you'll be happy to visit this island. The diet is naturally vegetarian, which may be a welcome change if you've been traveling through a lot of Peru. The next part of this review is about a specific company, Lago Tours, that hosts tours of... More

We spent one night here with a local family. The island is beautiful and actually feels authentic unlike the other islands on the lake. Our family was fantastic and helpful and cooked us amazing Peruvian food. The hike up to the Pachatata hill to watch the sunset over the like is a tough climb at altitude but easily manageable if... We took a day trip , organised by the couple we staying with in Capachica . What an absolutely beautiful island . There was only 4 of us tourists there . Had a nice lunch with a local family after climbing to top of island . Scenery is incredible , we loved this place . The highest island in the... More

The island is definitely worth visiting, we hiked up both mountains and saw a very beautiful sunset over the Lago Titikaka. However, our guest family was not very talkative, the food was very basic ( as expected), but they didn't even pretend to care a bit so they gave us e.g. jam out if the bought plastic bag. Instead of... More

When I landed on Amantani I had no idea of what was going to happen, but after the first walk up to the house that was going to guest us, on those silent clean tracks with the green of eucalyptus against the blue of Titicaca on the horizon in an incredibly bright air, we were aready loving the island and... My wife and I recently took a 2 day tour of the beautiful and vast Lake Titicaca with an overnight on Amantani Island (homestay). It is a very rudimentary way of life and as other reviews suggest you may find yourself (as we did) without shower facilities, hot water, a flushing toilet or heating. Our group typically stayed with families... More
