Near by is the Pisco River that you can see and hear from the fortress. There niches in the walls that have traces of red, yellow and white pigment that represented the colors of the sunset. The fortress "functioned as the throne for the Inca ruler, dwellings, offices, storehouses, rows of barracks and the sacrificial alter". Be sure to wear... More

Will be better if you come here already know the history because here is lack of information about the site. However the site is worth a... More

Even though this place is a ruin, it is a must see place. You can arrive at this place and feel like stepping back in time imagining how it once was. It is well preserved with traces of the paint still there. It is a peaceful place and you get the impression that its inhabitants were peaceful people due to... More

A very interesting and very old site. There is enough there to make you wonder what went on. Great place for the imagination to run wild. Highly recommend that you read up on the place prior to going there. The guides are reasonably knowledgeable, but the site makes more sense if you know what you are looking at before you... More

We went there on a Princess cruise tour. The bus ride there was fine, air conditioned, comfortable seats. There was clean rest rooms and a small museum/gift store. Plus there are local vendors set up in the parking lot. The ruins are extensive, well maintained and the guided tour was comprehensive. A must see for history and archeology buffs.

Tambo Colorado was an Incan administrative center dating from the 15th century. It overlooks the Pisco river valley and is about 1 hour drive east of Pisco. It is a vast complex of buildings and courtyards mostly in good condition. It was built primarily of adobe brick and amazingly, some of its walls and niches still have touches of red,... More

Our cruise ship docked at Pisco (San Martin) and we joined a shore tour to reach our destination at Tambo Colorado. This site comprised of adobe buildings around a central plaza. It is well preserved that we can still make out original paintings in yellow and red. It took a couple of hours from Pisco to Tambo Colorado and it... More

Toured this ruins while on a shore excursion & enjoyed our time here. Nicely kept up & gives insight into their past. Beautiful mountain views also.

We were the only visitors. We took a guide and driver as we only had an afternoon free and darkness descends at 6ish; one hour from Paracas. Lovely journey near a green river valley. Traces of paint remain and this was our introduction to Inca Architecture.Sadly only one guard so there are a few graffiti and some stuff has been... More

This is a not so often visited Inca Ruin. It is about 50 Km from Paracas and still has a lot of the paint used by the Incas when it was built. It is possible to see the red color, giving the place its name of Colorado, on the walls and in the niches. We were the only ones visiting... More
