Much has been said about it. It's something for sure, to see, but the trail, especially in the rain can take a toll on you. Slippery, muddy, narrow in places in the wet season. Take water. Take a rain cover you can put on and...More

This is a relatively newly "discovered" waterfall (locals always knew about it) that is 1 of the biggest waterfalls in the world depending exactly how you define it. I didn't do a tour and just used public transport. You can find a shuttle for around...More

I was really pleased with this waterfall, and well worth the money. I also think this is a relatively cheap attraction to visit, compared to i.e more touristy areas of Peru. The hike is quite far and tough, so you better take a horse if...More

This whole day tour is very strengthening because you have to walk uphill for 5,5 kilometer, with some stops for nice views on the Andes mountains. Which is so beautiful. But when we reached to purpose the waterfall it was like wow!!! You could almost...More

5km hike there and back on the tour from town. No guide is needed. Hike back is all uphill between km 3 and 2. Bring lots of water but there are a few snack stops on the way. Running shoes are fine for the hike....More

Even on horseback, this adventurous trip takes more than an hour. Then you ascend further cliffs and stairs on foot. The falls are breathtaking! The distance below your feet is treacherous. The locals providing the horses lead you the entire way--making the trip even more...More

Hike is ~9km round trip (same path for egress (not a loop trail)). There is great deal of up down up down on the trail (not like most trails where its mostly up one way and down the return). Trail is well maintained. There are...More

Amazing views, not only of the impressing waterfall. You can do the tour easily by yourself (without a guide). If you want to do the loop, start early, it will take you about 7-8 hours of hiking (incl. some breaks).

I made this trip yesterday to both the upper and lower falls, walking thru the highlands to get there was taxing, but I could have rented a horse. The falls are beautiful, I was disappointed that the mermaid didn't show up!

We flew into Tarapoto (about one hour flight from Lima) and drove through Moyobamba (small city -for overnight I recommend "La casa de mi Sueno") to the little town of Cocachimba. About six hours by car if made without stops. We stopped at a beautiful...More

It's impossible to loss. There is only one way to arrive, you only have to follow straight and don't turn right or left. From the gocta lodge there are 5 km to gocta. It's a beautiful place

Did the tour company rush you once you were at the waterfall? How much time did you stay at the waterfall?

I was there in June of 2007 and it looks like the area has been built up and moved away from the remote life of the locals that I was drawn to during our visit. How many hostels are there now?
