I was really impressed with the Town square. We did not know that we had arrived in the city on a public holiday so wondered why there was noone about except a few folk encouraging participants in a race. Within 30mins a public ceremony took...More

Large main square in Arequipa. Huge beautiful cathedral located at the front. Lovely looking buildings all around with tour places and restaurants. Food is a bit more pricey here but the views from the restaurants upstairs are lovely.

Arequipa is a beautiful town, less busy than Lima, and road less traveled by tourists, who crowd Cusco. It is well worth a visit, has magnificent churches, monasteries and town squares filled with shops and eating places.

Arequipa, the "ciudad blanca" is a jewel in the south of Peru! You can easily plan in a week to pass here. You can visit the volcanoes or the salinas salt lake. Also absolute recommendation to go shopping in the many nice boutiques for Alpaca...More

A lovely square in the centre of the city. All white and dominated by the impressive Cathedral. Best to be enjoyed from one of the cafes high up on the balconies of the buildings around the square.

This is great because some streets are closed for walking only, and you don't have to deal with a lot of traffic in the immediate area. There are lots of shops, many old side streets and a lot of local flavor and sites to see.

On one side of the plaza, beneath the arches, is a lovely set of stalls selling everything a tourist could want... and more! Lovely ladies. No pressure to buy. Hat 15 soles. Jumper 30 soles.

It's a nice place to spot the colonial architecture and do some shopping. There are a lot of good restaurants in the nearby.
