MUSEO LARCO OPENS FROM 9AM TO 10PM, DAILY. The Museo Larco is housed in an exquisite 18th century vice-royal mansion, built over a 7th century pre-Columbian pyramid and surrounded by beautiful gardens. The museum’s galleries exhibit the finest and most magnificent gold and jewelry treasures from Ancient Peru and the renowned erotic collection, one of Peru’s most celebrated attractions. Founded in 1926 and located in Lima, the Museo Larco holds the largest and most important archaeological collection of Ancient Peru in the world. Peru is known worldwide thanks to the legendary Inca Empire on the Andes Mountains; however few are aware that this society existed only for the last 100 years before the arrival of the Spanish conquistadores. The Museo Larco portrays to the visitor an engaging narrative, recounting 5000 years in the development of Peru’s pre-Columbian history; thus becoming the ideal means to understand and enjoy Ancient Peru. On the Museum’s terraces overlooking its vibrant and stunning gardens, find Museo Larco´s Café restaurant, where one can savour the best of Peruvian and International cuisine. All in all, it’s accurate to say that to become fascinated by Peruvian history, the journey begins at Museo Larco!

This is an amazing museum with so many artefacts. The only issue with the tour was that it was rushed. 45 minutes is not enough time to see all the exhibits (over 45000). We had 50 minutes for dinner as well. Which was amazing, The restaurant was beautiful.

Great ceramic art mostly from the Chimu culture, pre-dating the Incas by a thousand years or something like that. Don't miss the erotic art gallery downstairs.

Apart from the historic beauty indoors, the exotic pottery section called to me. I was not surprised but found it very amusing and beautiful. I will be returning with my friends on my next visit! Also, the storage room was SO COOL with rows and and rows and rows of similar pottery vessels and forms by the masses.

Fantastic scenery, beautiful on the outside and the on premise restaurant is in a gorgeous setting. The museum contained incredible pieces, we went on our own, if you can get a guide, you get so much more out of it. I found it a bit small though but still great.

I was pleasantly surprised with this museum. You get to see part of the history of many many Peruvian cultures. The amount of artifacts is unbelievable. They also have a very humorous erotic exhibition. But overall my favourite part was the garden and restaurant. It was beautiful and the food was very tasty.

This is a private Museo and is a little costly. You'll need to take a taxi as it's a far distance from centro and Miraflores districts. It's just a wonderful example of all Inka art and objects.

On our last day in Lima, we decided to go to Larco Museum, where we spent about 2 hours. Entrance tickets were quite expensive (30 soles per adult), but worth it. The Museum displays an huge amount of pre-colonial artefacts found in different regions of Peru, always linking the pieces to a specific people and moment in history. Among the... More

A great museum in the middle of the city, full of old Inca artifacts. Not extremely busy easy to get to and visit and with lots to do nearby as well.

Provided a good background on the cultural history of south america. Very good collection of displays. A unique set of erotic pieces are on display next to the restaurant, which provided a special view of the culture.

A very doable in size and detail museum but very comprehensive coverage of the early cultures of Peru through the Incan times. It is so much more than the erotic gallery which draws the headlines.
