Part of the ruins site at Machu Picchu. Well preserved (good resting spot also). Worth the trek, if physically able.

While taking a somewhat backseat to the more popular Sun Temple, the Moon Temple is none the less inspiring for it's stonework and for the effort that it took to create it. Certainly impressive as part of the overall Machu experience !

How to find the moon temple: When you reach the top of the Huyana Picchu, follow the sign that says, "Gran Caverna" (about an hour). Alternatively, there's an unmarked path that diverges to the left as you ascend Huyana Picchu. This path is shorter, and if you take the alternative route back up, you can still see the top of... There is a great story behind all of the attractions in Machu Picchu. Don't walk it without a guide or a good guide book, as the history is super interesting.

Half the fun of the Moon Temple is the walk there! The carved steps and pathways that take you to the isolated and quiet spot are worth every exertion of effort. Just watch your step as some of those stairs are rather steep and sharp... Once you get there, the silence is absolute and stunning. You look down the hills... More

The hike to the Moon Temple was very interesting from the very steep steps that you must walk down sideways to the rickety ladder that are held to the side of the mountain with only a few ropes. In the end the actual Moon Temple is very underwhelming though a nice place to have a picnic as not many people... More

After reaching the summit of Wayna Picchu you have the choice of simply heading back the way you just come or hike out to the Temple of the Moon. I chose the latter and although the destination is pretty underwhelming by contrast to the rest of Machu Picchu the path you traverse to reach the temple is worth the extra... More
