This is one of the best tourist places in Montevideo. Great place to absorb the lively scene. Good food but mostly for the meat lovers and inexpensive compared to neighbouring Buenos Aires and especially to North America and Europe.

Only if you are a strict vegetarian you can skip this visit. The market was built in iron from Europe and fixed in place. You will find shops and restaurants, inside and outside the building. There is music, too. And art exhibitions around it. And nice...More

This is one of the kind experiences in Montevideo. My recommendation is to sit in front of one of the "parrillas" where you will see all different parts (known and not...). Personnel is usually friendly and they will let you know what is each cut...More

We went there for visit and check out the lunch options. The market itself does not have any particular attraction since it has turned to accommodate several different eating places. Worth the visit, but a quick one.

This is the place to go and have a typical asado which means great quantities of meat. I managed to have some fish though. On top of the food the experience with the outside tables and the quaint stores is very typical

I was there during my last hours in my last day during a holiday, with my girlfriend, and it was totally worth the quick ride. The building probably dates from last century, but it is very well conservated, and offers a great choice of restaurants...More

No one single fruit or fish post here. 99% of the place if covered with parrillas (BBQs) serving mostly meat, chorizos, game, and limited seafood. Many locals, and also tourists. We enjoyed.

Best on weekends but also good during the week. Casual no hurry ambiance with lots to see. Can easily buy tickets for the city tour bus from here. Good place to meet others or sit at a restaurant or cafe and watch life go by....More

Great place for a range of parilla experiences, possibly a bit pricey, and not best quality, but still worth a visit.
