The Fiji Museum is Suva's main museum, located in Thurston Gardens, which are the capital city's botanical gardens. The museum has an extensive archaeological collection dating back 3,700 years and relics of Fiji's indigenous cultural history. You will find on display the rudder of HMS Bounty of mutiny and loads of information. There are different sections and exhibits. Make sure... More

I wouldn't even rate 1 star if I had a choice. I am truly appalled by the racism and discrimination I've experienced here today. I attended with my Fijian boyfriend, whilst his Fijian cousin waited outside. On entry we were charged $20 whilst we looked around the museum (appears to be one room with 5 artefacts in it). Small but impressive museum with a surprising array of artifacts of historical interest on Fijian culture and ways of life. Several smaller rooms to the side and up the stairs. Well stocked gift shop, and on this day there were some artists selling their crafts on the front verandah. There were building works in progress but that did not hamper... More

The ships and historical artifacts are very interesting and they are kept well. I asked for a guide and Susan was very helpful and knowledgeable so I really leart about the country and its people. This is the way to go and the park in which it stands is quite well kept and lovely. The Thurston Gardens are a great... More

Nestled in Thurston Gardens the Fiji Museum displays historical objects, nautical items, modern paintings and tapa cloth in various gallaeries. The layout is a bit confusing since the book/gift shop opens after the first maritime gallery that has several large boats (not just models). So don't miss the Masi Gallery on the upper level for tapa cloth; when we visited... More
