If you want to see the originals you have to visit the main museums in metropols. This museum gives a review of Gaugin's life and art with the replicas of his many paintings.

We visited three times and eventually got there when was open, our mistake! Worth the visit in my opinion having grown up with my mothers appreciation of Gauguin I found it fascinating. Lots of information to read some only in French but what I found...More

The museum itself is located in the center of Atuona. It has a very complete collection of replicas from Gauguin life and movement. It is a way to learn more about the artist and his transformation and also help the local site to preserve culture....More

I loved my visit to the Gauguin Museum but it was made very special because of the talk given to our group by a great guide. He told us the story of Gauguin's life which was so interesting.

The Paul Guiguin Museum is a wonderful representation of his work using reproductions. They are well displayed with sufficient descriptions. It is worthwhile to pay the admission. The Jacques Brel building that is in the grounds of the Gauguin Museum is not worth paying for....More

In addition to works of Paul Gauguin the museum also has various artifacts from Hiva Oa. The museum is larger than it looks from the outside and one could easily spend a morning looking at and reading about the many items here. Well worth seeing...More

We spent a lovely afternoon looking around this museum. Very well set out and English information as well as French. Some beautiful art works and photos as well as interesting history. Not expensive. Easy to get to, centre of village.
