Like everything in Sofia, this monument is on a walking distance from other monuments. It is not far away at all from the Alexander Nevski Cathedral and the Sofia University. You can see the National Football Stadium when you are at the monument. It is a huge and impressive statue, one of my favourite places in the city.

A Powerful and ambigous Monument that you have to visit to get a right knowledge about the controversial past of the city and also of the nation, during the soviet time. I suggest to visit this place and other footprints made during soviet time with the support of the guides from the "Communist Tour". You could get some curious info... More

In memory of the Sovjet army which once occupied the country. Nowadays a bone of contention: tear it down or leave it the way it is ? Forget about it or does it belong to the national history ? The adjacent statues have been painted several times in vivid colours (see pictures on internet). Not all memories are that good.

One of the best outdoor places in the city to meet young people. It's super crowded during the warm seasons. Everybody's outside with a beer in their hand. A lot of friendly people. It's a great place to socialise and to rest during sightseeing.

Splendid but looks a little tired - parts need to be replaced and also the graffiti needs to be removed.

Looks like they are allowing it to fall apart naturally! Worth having a look. The park itself is interesting with lots of skateboarding would- be champs.

It's obvious the Bulgarian's don't care about this soviet era monument. It's not maintained, it's got graffiti on it and large parts of the base of the monument are falling away. The sculptures are impressive at the entrance to the monument though and well worth a look. How times change....

Just a leftover statue from communist times. You can clearly see that Sofia hates this statue, as they do nothing at all to preserve it. As our city guide said, the Bulgarians like to forget instead of preserve their past. This is an example of that line of thinking.

This monument is interesting but we were disappointed to see the superhero paint was not left on. Just be aware that it is technically owned by Russia and is protected by international law so whilst some locals may resent it, it has to stay. The park around it is OK but nothing special
