The museum is one of Croatia's fundamental national cultural institutions.

The building is beautiful and photogenic from the outside. It houses the finest collections of fine arts dating back from 14th - 20th century. Here you will see permanent collections from furniture, ceramics, glass, metal, textiles, paintings, sculptures, photography and many more.

The main collection is out of bounds as a result of damage done to the building during last years earthquake.

The rear lower room escaped damaged and is used for exhibitions. Very interesting exhibition on graphic design - remember how one had to go to the printers to design headed stationary in the 70’s ...... it was like a walk down memory lane.

Some posters from Socialist era films, moving on to corporate design and then on to pharmaceuticals. One can see trends in pharmaceutical products - absolutely intriguing!

I really enjoyed my visit. Discount for seniors. Good to see the museum using their best endeavours to open up after the earthquake.

I found this museum to be extremely disappointing , empty, and dated. The majority of the works being exhibited weren't from Croatia or the region which I found to be a great shame especially considering that the museum is located in Croatia. The part that I was most interested in visiting - the contemporary design exhibition was closed for renovations.

I was given a ticket for this museum and so glad I went. I had a few hours to kill before going home and was able to leave my luggage so I could able around. I particularly enjoyed The Nutcracker exhibition (made beautiful by a little girl practising her ballet by a costume) an right at the top the array of glass and the hat exhibition. Really enjoyed my hour

This is the largest and oldest Museum of fine and applied arts and design in Croatia. Spread across three floors, the collection include more than hundred thousand objects from 13th century to present times. The exhibits are in first , second and third floor in various halls. The Gothic tapestries, rare pieces of furniture, sacred art collection, works of Croatian craftsmen, clocks, Ivory and metal bells, and many more eye catching exhibits are located in these floors. There is also a cafe, a museum shop selling souvenirs. Entry fee is 40 Kuna and I have spent two hours enjoing the display. There is temporary exhibition at ground floor.

From the half-hidden entrance to the so-called exhibits of locally made, mostly Bauhaus style but ugly furniture from Tito's days on display, there is nothing to see here. What a waste of time and money!

Architecture intrigues me so; this city offers great examples of it all going back several hundreds of years.

Hard to take it all in.

Being just an enthusiast of the history of Russia in early 20th century, I see two main themes of the exhibition: one is people and other - construction/industry. Rodchenko covers both excellently, however I cannot stop thinking of the personal histories of the people on his photos, squeezed between Stalin's Gulag and Hitler's WW 2.

I have visited many comprehensive arts and crafts museums in many countries. This one has a small collection with a handful of nice art nouveau pieces, but overall nothing like what I would have pictured as being Croatian handcraft. Costumes and other textile objects are located at the Ethnography Museum kitty corner from here, but that exhibit was closed when I visited, so I never really got to see any real Croation craft products.
