The Old Stone Gate is the only remaining gate from the thirteenth century wall around the Upper Town. The gate is particularly interesting because it's not only a gate, but houses a Madonna and Child painting that miraculously escaped a fire in 1731. Today, a chapel is built into the gate to house the painting and the faithful light candles... More

This is worth seeking out, although not hard to spot as many of the locals seek it out for a bit of prayer and quiet reflection. It's a former gateway in the city walls which now houses a shrine and image of Our Lady, complete with a few tiny pews squeezed in one corner. We happened to be here in... More

It is a medieval city gate where they built a shrine. Admire the smoke-darkened ceiling and take in the many who are there, after lighting a candle, engrossed in prayer.

First night we went looking for it, we were not sure where it was. Then we saw the seats and the icon and we figured out that this was the Porta di Pietra. We also went in the morning, people are praying there and it is very peaceful. It is on the way to the museums, easy access from town.

This is a very old part of Zagreb which still remains. There is a shrine which is quite spiritual underneath.

The Stone Gate is lovely to visit. There is a "shrine" to the Virgin Mary as it is the only thing that survived after a devastating fire. Lots of people go here for prayers and lighting of candles. A must-see!
