An absolutely fabulous architectural masterpiece. It was built with the help of the slogan"donate 1 leu (Romanian currency) for the Atheneum". It not only rhymes but it stand for the people's genuine devotion to the art phenomenon. Apart from classical concerts it also organises several others. If I am not wrong, Demis Roussos has been here twice. MUST SEE.

We toured the building with a guide who told us about its interesting history and told us the stories that go with the giant painting depicting the Romanian history from the beginning to the 20th century.

The hotel is in a fantastic location. The executive lounge is great - on the roof with terrace. Good wine/food. Rooms are dated - some wear and tear. Service is good.

Probably the most beautiful and classically elegant building in Bucharest. The Athenaeum is primarily the city’s main concert hall but in reality it is very much more. Architecturally it’s an evocation in stone and marble of ancient Greece; historically a proclamation of where Romania saw itself in relation to European culture in the 1800’s and today, artistically, it’s the home... Beautiful building but needs some renovation especially the frescos and the main hall. Floors are a bit damaged too, because of earthquakes I guess, but the building worth a visit.

We chanced upon this theatre and we were allowed to wander around unaccompanied and visit the concert hall and the amazing foyer all for 10 lei (2 euro). Well worth the money and an interesting area with hip bars and restaurants.
