Reconstruction of the gate to Kiev, the original built in 1037. Sits in a nice garden (look for the cat statue!). Did not see the interiour because photos showed it to be of rather litttle interest.

I lived in the Golden Gate area twice and I always felt safe there. The scenery is nice and you can feel the opulence when you move around surrounded by the historical buildings and cafes.
The impressive Golden Gate was reconstructed in 1982, based on archaeological and written sources. What's left of the original gate, which was one of three entrances to the Early Medieval city, is still visible inside the structure. The surrounding park and streets are very busy,...More

This gate was once the entrance of the city but was demolished over the years. It was actually built in 1037 during the reign of Yaroslav. It was reconstructed in a park now in 1982 marking the 1500 anniversary of the city.
We were not sure what to make of this building from the outside so upon finding out how cheap it was to explore inside in we went. It would seem that this elaborate building is mainly a sarcophagus for an ancient town wall. Wall was...More
This gate is located on the way to the Sophia. It seems small, so you might not be interested, but it is worth to visit and get inside. They have quite good material from which you can learn the history of Kiev.
