very cute place for those who want to feel taste of traditional atmospere of market. you can find here different fresh fruits and vegetables in the centre of the city (it is situated near Khreschatik street), but it could be rather expensive. try to haggle and be cautious :) once we bought pears twice cheaper :)

Kiev is not the real place for shopping but it's fine for few things and they have a chocolate factory in that area which you have to go

I bought a sausage and it turned out later that it was 10x the price than in a normal shop. Try first the Metro Market and go to the Bessarabsky just to have a look at things.

One of the best things to do in central Kiev is to walk down the attractive Khreshchatyk Avenue from the Maydan Nezhalestnosti (the famous Independence Square, known from recent political events) all the way - maybe 20 leisurely minutes - to the Bessarabska Square with the 'Rynok Bessarabskyi' (Bessarabian Market Hall), a beautiful building from the early 20th century in... Old market in downtown Kiev, good for buying fresh, in season, fruit and vegetables and locally produced dairy products. Fresh meat, nuts and honey is also on offer. A bit overpriced. The building itself is an interesting peace of architecture, but has been somewhat neglected and given up a lot of it to other businesses. In my opinion only worth... More

Tried things that no one should ever try. Had horse meat (tasted like you would expect road kill to taste like). Stayed right down street, interesting little market. Right out front there is an underground mail, worth seeing as well.

Quite small market and not the normal atmospheric hustle & bustle of a busy city market May have originally been for the locals but suspect now for visitors wanting to buy caviar

Wonderful colour and smells and all the fruit veg fish and meat you could wish. Even if not for yourself it shows you what the locals eat AND I bought some really great Beluga which was so cheap I took some convincing it was genuine but the stall holder gave me a taste that convinced me.
