If you want to experience NIcaraguan religiosity, you must visit the Managua new Cathedral on Thursday or Sunday. Don't miss the 2 adjacent chapels to the main space.

Some welcome breeziness in the unrelenting Managua heat. The church is in the middle of what looks like wasteland, a few minutes walk from Metrocentro, and has some green gardens to both sides. Not so quiet that you can't take children in to wander round, lots of people looking after the building, cleaning and changing flowers. Lovely. We spent half an hour in there, but with a camera and without children you could stay longer. I loved the large dome with loads of little windows - we didn't see it at night but I think it's lit up from the inside.

The church was dedicated to the Immaculate Conception of Maria with 63 unique domes which represents the number of catholic churches in Nicaragua. The venerated image of the Sangre de Cristo is located in a dedicated circular chapel.

Designed by a Mexican architect and partially sponsored by the owner of Domino’s Pizza, this new cathedral was built in Brutalist style after the 1972 earthquake that flattened Managua and killed as many as 6000 Nicaraguans. Now the largest place of worship in the central American country, it may be beautiful from afar but definitely is far from beautiful, with its 63 mosque-like domes symbolising the dioceses of Nicaragua. Locals liken them to breasts (chiches in Spanish).

I like the contemporary architectural style. I attended mass there and the atmosphere was joyous. The seats are comfortable. It is definitely worth a visit.

Really nice cathedral to spend some time even if you are not catholic by and for some pictures of their incredible architecture. There is a very good atmosphere.

Calm and devotional place. Worth to go. The architecture resembles more a mezquita than a catholic church, but the modern plant design is curious.

Unique exterior architecture. I came here by mistake but enjoyed the site anyways. Quiet, unassuming with a dignified interior sanctuary. Make sure to tell your taxi to go to the church in Plaza de la Revolucion if you want to visit the Antigua Cathedral de Managua, which is a much more imposing structure.

Visited the church today. The architecture is unlike any other Catholic church I have ever seen before. It is also interesting inside
