We invite you to step back in time with us on a tour to visit the Embera...

We invite you to step back in time with us on a tour to visit the Embera tribe who still live in traditional villages deep in the rainforest of Panama. The Embera people are proud to share their culture and traditions with visitors. Spending time on a day or overnight tour with the friendly Embera people will touch your heart and is an experience you will never forget. Our founder, Anne Gordon de Barrigon, is married to an Embera man and began these tours to share the beauty of her Embera family and friends with others.

Note: this page is for the tours offered by Anne Gordon de Barrigon's tour company, Embera Village Tours and not for other tour operators who also offer tours to visit other Embera villages throughout Panama.

This tour proved to be a true highlight of our stay in Panama. Anne was fantastic - she picked us up right on time at our hotel and was a fount of knowledge about the Embrera people and about Panama. She keeps her groups small and the resulting tour is intimate and revelatory. Her community - and it is hers... More

On March 10th, my wife and I took the Embera Village Tour, on March 13th, we did snorkeling and historic Portobelo tour, and on March 14th we did a customized Panama City Tour. All three tours Jorge was our guide. At Embera, the warmth of the villagers was evident as they welcomed us and shared a glimpse of their lives... More

Such an amazing experience to go by canoe to the village taken by a member of the tribe. They made us very welcome, cooked us a meal served in a leaf, showed us how they make their craft work and colored the materials with natural things. We were given time to wonder around the village and see their houses. They... More

About 20 of us were driven to Chagres National Park and then boarded rustic dugout canoes for the journey to Embara Village, which took about 40 minutes. This in itself was a delightful voyage along a river and lake. When we reached the village we were greeted by locals, bare breasted ladies and a male "band". It was charming. We... More

We took the Embera Village Tour on March 13, 2017. To be very clear, we definitely booked with Anne Gordon's Embera Village Tours, where we dealt with Ellie. Initially, we were open to the experience, as a small group being transported to the village in a dug-out canoe, albeit powered by an outboard motor. We were greeted by the villagers... More

I clicked that Margaret C:s comment helped me. And it did cos that made me really want to write this. I think it is sad that people give a bad rewiew when they did not even go on this tour with this company and did not visit this village or People. This is NOT a tourist trap. This is a... More

As part of our Panama tour we traveled to the Embera Indian village by boat, the only way to access it. The Embera Indians were very gracious during our visit. One of the Embera men explained their culture and history while our tour guide translated for us. They showed us how they make their artworks which were available to purchase.... More

We had a wonderful time at this very isolated Embera Village. Jorge was a great and knowledgeable guide who had spent a lot of time with the tribe. We saw how they live- despite what other reviews indicate, this tribe lives there- they don't just show up to put on a show. Had lunch of local fish and fruit. They... More

We took a private dugout canoe trip with Ancon Expeditions up the Gatun River to the Embera village in the jungle. Carlos was our guide and had previously lived with the Embera for several months so he knew the chief and several members. Request him as your guide if you can. They are a very welcoming people and the chief's... More
