It does not matter if you do the Full or the Partial transit of the Panama...

It does not matter if you do the Full or the Partial transit of the Panama Canal you still would have to check off #5 from the list of 100 Journeys of a Lifetime by National Geographic. Canal and Bay Tours has been offering both transits for over 12 years and we are committed in assisting you to create a memorable experience. Both transits are an all-day affair with breakfast, lunch, and non-alcoholic refreshments included. Your once in a lifetime experience of transiting the Panama Canal begins with check in at the Playita de Amador and boarding one of our three vessels; Tuira II, Fantasia del Mar, or Isla Morada. Aboard our vessel you be on the Pacific Ocean and will pass under the Bridge of the Americas, through the Mira Flores and Pedro Miguel Locks, beneath the Centenario Bridge, through Culebra Cut, and ending in Gatun Lake which was the largest man-made lake in the world. You will also observe the construction of the second set of locks otherwise known as the Expansion of the Panama Canal.

Panama Canal is a 100 year old engineering masterpiece, and best experienced by actually boating through the locks. Tour includes pickup and drop off to your hotel. We took the 1/2 locks experience (3 locks) which takes 5-6 hours minimum boat ride. Count on a full day 8-13 hours, as tour boats have low priority, and our tour was delayed... More

A few tips worth sharing. We had some unhappy, uninformed passengers on our tour. Scheduling – the canal schedules the passage, NOT the tour company. Tour boats are low priority, so be prepared for last minute schedule changes, and be prepared for a long day, to be on the safe side. Sustenance – it's a good idea to bring water... More

For our purposes the day is committed to either way and this way you get to see the Gatun locks on the Caribbean side. We followed a freighter in on the pacific leg past the miraflores locks, and... We took a partial trip on the Panama Canal in March. It was an excellent tour, led by a very interesting tour guide, JC. He was informative, amusing, and knowledgeable. Traveling on the Canal is a must-see in Panama. The partial transit was a good length. Finally, the lunch was Panamanian food and was tasty.

The ferry boat Islamorada itself has an interesting history which was related during our tour of the Panama Canal. The tour itself is a fascinating experience and a wonderful way to view up close how the locks operate. As a previous reviewer mentioned, you must have patience to fully experience this trip through the Panama Canal. The waiting is mandatory... More

At first we started with 1 1/2 hour delay. Then we found a crowded boat. With about 25 others we shared for 5 hours some bad chairs in the hot sun. Menu was ok. Well, we survived it.

We did the partial tour which was 3 locks. It was amazing and exhilarating and in a nostalgic boat with a long celebrated history... apparently its sister boat starred in the African Queen! You do however need to bring your patience and leave your "first world problems " behind. As a small boat you can only enter the canal/ locks... More

We booked our tour on 1 November. Yesterday we eventually got confirmation that they would pick us up at 8:30. It is now 2 hours later and we have still not been picked up. We feel we may be wasting a precious day of our holiday.

I booked a tour with Canal & Bay Tours for January 2nd in August, and had a reservation confirmation. The day before the tour, I didn't hear anything from them regarding pickup or specifics, and no one answered the phone at any number I could find for them. I had the hotel calling multiple times. The morning of Jan 2nd... More
