It helped to be near both airports, mall, buses & trains. This hotel is small but quiet off the main street and very easy to find because it's the same name of the town.

The train ride was great. It was in old dome cars. There were viewing platforms to take great pictures and get fresh air. 1 hour journey. Can only buy tickets on day of travel and in Panama City and the ticket office opens at 0630.

This is a nice train ride where you view parts of the canal. The open viewing area is great as is the car with the high windows. Odd that we did not get the snack boxes until we disembarked

The outside platforms are large and the fresh air & views were wonderful. We also had seats at a table in the car with domed & windowed ceiling. The staff gave us snack boxes, with maps of the route.

We had a hotel in Panama City followed by a cruise starting in Colon. Logic said take the train from Panama City to Colon. Fortunately we read Colon was not good for tourists. True-- Colon is an industrial port & we really didn't find any interest there. We ended up taking a whole day tour from Panama City. The tour... More

I grew up in the Canal Zone and would take this train at least once a week. So many memories! It is definitely a piece of history. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to experience what it would be like to cross the isthmus over a hundred years ago traveling through the jungle.

We traveled on the Panama Canal Railway in a "restored executive rail car. The car had booth and table seating, A/C, restroom, and a snack was included. We boarded the railroad car in Panama City and traveled East back to where our ship was docked. We could see where the new canal is being build and the new Atlantic Bridge... More

This was a fun quick way to sit back and see the sights and nature. We went from Panama City to Colon. Be careful, because there is NOTHING at the Colon end , No services and it really is just a trainyard. We bargained with a taxi driver who took us to several forts on that side and even drove... We took the railroad to Colon to board our ship through the Panama Canal. The RR cars are a step back in time as is the ride. It was easy to imagine the struggles clearing the jungle for the railroad line. Plus there were many birds to see as you traveled the 50 mile route. If you are interested in... More
