Skip the dome car and get a seat with more legroom in an adjoining coach. Dome car needs work as some windows are leaking..

There for about two weeks, the canal and this lock were right across the street from us. It was incredible to see the ships this close.

This was top of my list in Panama, and I wasn't disappointed. It's a great way to travel from Panama City to Colon. We pre-arranged a driver meet us once we arrived in Colon, and I'm glad we did because there's not much at the Colon station. Scenery was great, and it was fun following the canal on a historic... It only takes 1 hour coast to coast and gives a great overview of the entire Panama Canal system. There is a dome carriage and refreshments on board. At the final stop, Colon, you see the older locks and the huge new one, built to take large cruise ships. The information over the tannoy is great. The is also a... More

The train is a very fun adventure. The "vista Dome" car is the best to see the area as you travel across Panama close to the locks. The fair $25 includes a snack box and a beverage.

We took the train to go to "Zona Libre" in Colon. Very comfortable train ride, with nice views of the canal. It is a little expensive, $25 each way, for a one hour ride. But with the views, it's worth taking the train one way and taking a bus (< $4.00) the other direction. Do take your passport if your... More

If you have to go to Colon from Panama City or the reverse this is a way to go. I did not think it was a sightseeing trip since you normally saw jungle. There was no descriptive info on what woy were passing.

One of the first items to be built for the canal was the railroad. It allowed for the movement of material in and out of the canal cut. Now the railroad operates engines, called mules to assist in the movement of the ships through the canal. As many as 8 mules can be used depending on the size of the... More

I would like to recommend the railway to tourist but specially for Panamanians. It is an excellent trip to enjoy our tropical forest and have a look from a different perspective to the Canal effluents. The trip takes 1 hour and you will get a small snack box on board. People at the counter are very friendly and will help... More
