Given that this seems to be a rich person's city, I was wondering if we would be comfortable here, but as it turned out, Annapolis was a pleasant surprise. I loved this place. It was a Sunday, and people were dressed up. People watching was excellent. And being the headquarters of the Naval Academy, one would expect boats and ships. I can't swim, so I avoided getting too close to the water, but still got some great boat photos.
But as for the name Ego Alley, at first, before we actually saw the place, I thought it was a reference to all the expensive boats. But instead, it seemed to be because people packed the far end of the parking lot on the dock with expensive, collector cars.
Don't miss Annapolis' Main Street either. Parking might be an issue along the curb, but there is a parking lot to the left (it's a one way,) easily seen from the road. There are plenty of interesting shops to peruse and spend your money in.
The most surprising thing, though, which was refreshing in a mostly white part of town, was a life-sized statue of Alex Haley reading to some life-sized children statues, right at the end of the dock.
There were sail ship rides available at a reasonable price too. If I hadn't almost drowned twice, that would have been tempting to try.

We visited Annapolis for the weekend. The dock was a central area of activity. The boats and people are great for watching. We were there during a fair which added to the activity. Make sure you take time to just boat watch. Plenty of shops all around. Parking is timed ticket when events are not there.

Fun area to look at all the boats, especially on weekend when powered yachts are docked, during the week end of Sept more sailboats. Plenty of restaurants in the area. Staying at Flag House we gravitated to this area every day. We took the schooner Woodwind, Watermark Severn River tour, water taxi. A must see area.

It's a tourist trap, for the most part.

The surrounding architecture is nice. There are more interesting parts of this city.

If you have kids make sure you have a loaf or two of bread before you head to Ego Alley! Parking can be hard to find down in this area so plan accordingly or park in one of the garages around. Beautiful views of the water and all the boats and restaurants. Walk along the wood pathway down to a beautiful view of the bay.

Far better than even Ocean City for People Watchin’. Always something going on morning to midnight. People & pets of all makes & models. Music blaring, kids dancin’, boats on perpetual parade in and out of Ego Alley. A tradition not to be denied (or overlooked).

I'm following up regarding my horrible review yesterday after learning from a fellow mariner today that on another mariner forum, this is a known issue yet the Harbor Master Beth told us 'this has never happened in Annapolis before', when it happened just a couple months back. I am getting reports upon putting the word out that we are not alone in this experience. The identical experience happened, was ignored as well. The harbor master was useless and unresponsive and with that occurrence, the police were called but unhelpful. Thankfully for us the only help was from the police and quick. It's a horrible thing when our safety is of no concern when they KNOW about the exact same issue occurring just 2 months prior and have done nothing about it! I call that negligence and maleficence. Take your own chances staying at Annapolis City Docks. Anchor or moor instead.

One of our favorite spots in Annapolis. Whether you go during they day to watch the large yachts turn around or sit there by night with all the glowing lights surrounding the alley, it's nice area to just sit and relax. There is plenty of seating around the entire alley. You can enjoy lunch or an ice cream cone at night and listen to live music. It's the perfect backdrop for selfies!

There seems to be a great deal of activity in this area all day and into the night. There are a few restaurants where you can get a good meal along with interesting sights. I am sure you will enjoy this experience.
