We saw two Alex Haley statues on this trip. The other was in Knoxville, Tennessee, which was larger, but not as charming as this one. As a first time visitor to Annapolis, I thought it said a lot about Annapolis' attitude toward diversity, especially that this is located right where all the tourist things are, as well as lots of expensive things, such as expensive boats and cars, and the majority of the people one sees here are white. They could have located this in a different neighborhood, far from the day to day bustle, and out of sight of the tourists. (That's what they did in Tennessee.) Instead, they displayed it proudly where everyone could see it. Way to go Annapolis!

On our visit to Annapolis at City Dock area, we came up on a very nice setting for the statues. There is a plaque that commemorates his works. Nice gathering plays where where is music it appears nightly. Parking is paid on the street or in a near by garage.

It's good to explore this aspect of American History that is too often neglected. It won't take long to check it out, but meditate there as long as you would like.

Awesome history statues. Wonderful location. Figures are very realistic now I will have to watch Roots again to remember the stories told.

What a thoughtful memorial. We had avidly watched the program when it originally aired but had never heard about this sculpture cluster. What a great idea!

Having read the book and seen the movie, the memorial was good to see. Alex Haley surrounded by children was like a scene from the old days when children listen to their elders. The plaques around the memorial should be read. The plaques are enlightening.

This is just a few statues along the water front to look at and read about, but it's a great place to eat after you grabbed some food from across the street at the market. lots of people hang out hear in the evening and day to eat and chat along the water. Just sit and relax and watch the boats and people moving around the harbor area.

The sculpture was nice and you can sit by the water which is always pleasant in the summer. There are also a lot of nice restaurants and shops nearby since it is located in the historic district. Just a nice place to walk around.
