A mighty fine warrior on a horse

While I haven't seen many warrior on a horse statues that I recall, this was really one that will be remembered. With a total height of 25 meters it is hard to avoid seeing, and... read more

Way high up on a column, surrounded by lions with their yes and genitals painted red! is a nice statue of Alexander the Great, a Macedonian warrior. BUT the sculptor has positioned the statue in such a way, that all one can see from underneath is the enormous horses genitalia. ( i asked the guide, and the answer i got... More

The warrior on a horse is a large statue in the middle of the main square of Macedonia. The bottom of the statue is well decorated surrounded by some water

While I haven't seen many warrior on a horse statues that I recall, this was really one that will be remembered. With a total height of 25 meters it is hard to avoid seeing, and the eight lions standing 2,5 meters tall are also mpressive. They were working in the area when we visited, so the fountain was out of... More

This is not just a "Warrior on a Horse". This is Alexander the Great! A true leader in Macedonian history, his statue stands tall in the city square, surrounded by lighted fountains and statues of lions. From this location, you can see a beautiful view of Mount Vodno and the River Vardar. It is also surrounded by restaurants and souvenir... More

The whole City Center of Skopje was remodelled into a pseudo-hellenistic past by building a lot of statues and blending buildings with fake historistic fassades. It cost a lot and is not really worth the effort as already now the slapshot building manner shows in cracks and fissures.

A good statue if you like expensive folly statues of men on horses. Features a big man on a big horse, with water squirting all about.

The Warrior on a Horse is a larger-than-life monument, which is perhaps the main symbol of town of Skopje in the center of the Macedonia Square. It is typically thought to depict Alexander the Great, though it is not officially named for him. The statue was sculpted by Valentina Stevanovska and cast in Florence. "Alexander" was officially completed on September... More

I suppose taste differs. The size of the statue just leaves one wondering why it had to be so large.

About the summum of kitsch... a big warrior on a horse (Alexander the Great). Below that a multicolor musical fountain with music all around the square. And that music goes from a Viennese waltz to a French cancan to whatever classical you can think of. Exaggerated.
